Really broad topic but I was wondering what kind of colleges I could get into. Currently, I am a junior at staten island technical high school. My average for the 1st semester was 97.8 (I know not that great) Im a really average person and my best subject is math. I played violin for two years, and I work at kumon. I was really hoping to get into NYU, do I stand a chance? Btw, what kind of sat score would nyu want? (Im not looking to get into med school or anything). I hope you guys can give me some consensus. Thank you in advance.

Did you take the SAT? What did you get on the PSAT?

A 97.8 average (out of 100, right?) is actually good. It would help to know more about your classes/course rigor and letter grades. 2 years of violin is nothing, unless you’re now a virtuoso. For NYU, shoot for 2000+ on the SAT or 30-ish on the ACT to have a good shot, although people get in with lower scores of course. I actually don’t know that much about NYU because I didn’t end up applying, but my sister got into the business program there with a 3.97 UW GPA (only one B in all 4 years of HS, and 3 AP’s) and a 30 on the ACT and 2180 SAT, to give you a good idea.

Study for your SATs! And agreed- 2 years of violin is nothing.

Why don’t you look at last years graduates from your high school to get an idea of what types of colleges people from your school generally go to…

wow thanks freakchild that was a lot of help. Right now my sat is score is in the low 2000 area and i took ap english, ap us, ap world, ap precalc (lol) planning on taking ap euro, ap calculus ab or bc next year. Im too stupid to get into sciences. Im also gonna take three sat iis (physics, us history, and math ii) If i do good on those i think i have a pretty good chance of getting in (Correct me if im wrong lol).

Did I miss your saying it? What school within NYU are you considering applying to? That will make a difference as well.

idk actually. I dont want to go into medical because i heard its ridiculously hard and i never was any good at science. I really want a job involving accounting, finances, that sort of thing

That’s true, school does make a difference. I don’t know which one she was applying to, but this girl at my school got rejected and she was simply amazing (4.0 GPA, 8 AP’s, Art prodigy, she played the cello and got many solos, and a Spanish scholar)…
but If youre applying to applying to an easier school, then you can definitely get in
