Are you instate or out of state? If you are instate, I think your chances are better. If OOS, I think Data Science is going to be a reach, but CIT in polytech would be more of a match.
Being an URM and female is going to help you for admission at Purdue.
I’m out of state, from NJ. Purdue asks for a second option major so if I do not get into my first choice data science, do they then consider me for CIT?
Yes, if you don’t get into your first choice major, they will consider you for your second choice.
What are your instate options like for CS? Is Rutgers on your list?
Are you interested mostly in big publics? If so, look at UMD CP for a match/low reach (CS has gotten so much more competitive than the universities as a whole). Schools like Iowa State, Alabama, ASU for safeties.
I really have no preference for Public/Private or size even I just want to get a degree that holds a lot of value from an accredited school and hopefully become something that combines data science/comp sci/business. Rutgers is on my list, so is UMD CP. What do you think my chances are for Virginia Tech (comp sci), UWisconsin (data sci), WPI (data sci), and Penn State (data sci)? Thank you for responding it means so much!!!
I’m applying to Rutgers-New Brunswick, TCNJ, and Stevens Institute of Technology for my in-state schools. I’m looking for schools that are going to be under 35k a year. I have no idea what is realistic or a target school for me to get into since I don’t have an official SAT Score because of COVID. I listed Virginia Tech as a target though, it has a 65% acceptance rate, not sure if it is probable that I will get in anymore though.
Do you recommend applying for easier majors to my top schools and transferring later on? For example, Georgia Tech is my top school so I put my first choice as Business Administration (B.S) and second choice as Computer Science (B.S).
Georgia Tech got wise to students applying to less popular majors in order to get in and now make it very difficult to change majors - particularly within the first year or two. Definitely do not apply there under a major you do not want as you might get stuck in it.
I have another question. Do you think it is worth applying to the Honors College? Even if the chances of me getting into the HC are very small, do you think it would increase my chance of being admitted overall? Or do you think it is a waste of time and might hurt me more than benefit me?
