What are my chances of getting into Rice?

Hi! I’m a senior, and one of my top colleges that I will be doing early decision at is Rice University.
However, I am worried about my application. I have a 32 composite in ACT and the superscore is 34. My GPA is 4.51. I have not taken the SAT. My extracurriculars include being French Club president (4 years), ASAP (Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention) president, interact, scholars, and youth leadership. I am in NHS. I am also the Student Council president for my senior year. I have earned some math awards, but they would be considered insignificant by most. Most of my time is spent volunteering, whether that be at the school or religious places.

I am apprehensive. Thank you for your responses!

Definitely apply. Rice has binding ED. You are in the range. The average ACT for the Class of 2022 that just matriculated at Rice was 33. The average ACT for admitted students may be a bit higher than that. If you can pull your composite ACT up some that might improve your chances. The average SAT for the incoming class was 1510. Some people do better on the SAT than the ACT. Rice admitted 11 percent of its applicants last year. It is a reach for just about everyone. Make sure to apply to some safety and match schools too.

Your chances for Rice are actually relatively good, but it’s a school you really can’t depend on for acceptance. I would say about 40%. Make sure you have some good affordable back-ups and safeties too.

APPLY! My daughter had very similar stats and ECs and was accepted ED in the class of 2022. One thing we weren’t aware of on the application was you have to prove how you “showed interest” and I believe there were 10 spaces for examples. Make a point to visit, make contact with students, etc. GOOD LUCK!!!
