What are my chances of getting into SDSU?

Current high school GPA: 3.92
CSU GPA: 3.82
Highest SAT score is a 1790 and my highest ACT score is a 25.

I have also passed 2 AP tests and will take 4 more this year.

I have taken 13 Honors/AP courses, while 9 of them are weighted classes.

My freshman GPAs: 3.83, 4.00.
My sophomore GPAs: 4.17, 3.50.
My junior GPAs: 4.17, 3.83.
I so far have straight A’s senior year, taking 5 classes, 4 of which are AP, so I am currently at a 4.80 this semester and hope to maintain it.

My major is Computer Science (BS)
Emphasis/Concentration: Animation.
And my alternate major is Undeclared.

SDSU uses the eligibility index for acceptances.
(CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math + CR) or (CSU GPA x200) + (ACT comp x10).
You want to have a target EI of 4100 (SAT) or 1000 (ACT) to be a competitive applicant.

Since I do not know your SAT breakdown, your ACT EI is 1014 which puts you within the range.

Each applicant for SDSU is ranked based on their major and EI. They start with the highest EI and accept down until all spots are filled. Much will depend upon how competitive the in-coming Freshman applicants are for each major. SDSU does not publish their EI thresholds like SJSU, but it is helpful to go through last year’s decision threads to see what Stats were accepted for each major.

Thank you so much @Gumbymom :slight_smile: You’re a really helpful person, and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.

My SAT breakdown is:
600 - Critical Reading
590 - Math
600 - Writing

So my Math + CR is 1190, which means that my SAT EI is 4246, which is above the target EI quite some bit.

My major is Computer Science, but I’ve heard from my friends, “Dude! That’s like one of the hardest majors to get into nowadays!” Yikes! Computer Science is my passion, though, so I didn’t want to cheat and put an easy major just to get in. However, I put Undeclared as my Alternate Major, so if I don’t get into Computer Science, can I still get into the school with an Undeclared major as some kind of fallback plan?

I do feel positive that I can get accepted into SDSU, but I hope this dream of mine becomes reality. I want to get into UCSD as my top choice school, but SDSU is my second top choice. :slight_smile:

My younger son is a CS major at SDSU- 2nd year. He was accepted with a CSU GPA of 3.73 and ACT score of 31. Really loves the program and professors. If you decide on SDSU, let me know and I can get him to answer any questions.

@Gumbymom That makes me feel very optimistic hearing about your son getting into a CS major. His GPA is good but his ACT score is fantastic! I’d say that score definitely helped him get into this school. With a score like that, your son seems like such an intelligent individual.

His ACT EI is actually 1056, which is higher than my ACT EI. However, which is higher: His ACT EI of 1056 or my SAT EI of 4246?

I will say that I would be happy to go to either SDSU or UCSD. If I got accepted into both, I would still choose UCSD, but I will decide on SDSU if I get accepted into that but not UCSD over any other school.

I’m glad that your son really loves the program and professors. :slight_smile: That makes me happy, since I will surely like it, too. You must be so proud of your son, and I hope that he continues to enjoy his experience at SDSU. I am sure he will succeed in life.

Hopefully, I will have the same fate as him and get into SDSU, too. :slight_smile:
