By the time I graduate, I will have taken 7 AP courses and 6 honors courses.
My school doesn't rank. Or maybe they just don't tell us until senior year.

Test Scores:
Just took my SAT's and ACT's, but on the practice SAT I got about 1880. I took a prep course so I'm hoping for 2000. I got a 29 on the practice ACT, I'm hoping for a 30.

Founder of Camp Swift Club (explained below)

Community Service:
Camp Swift (about 1500 hours)-Camp Swift is a summer camp for underprivileged inner-city children from the Phoenix area. The camp is planned and run by Jewish teenagers who volunteer their time not only during the summer, but throughout the year to plan camp and raise money. (These hours include 12 sessions of camp plus planning and fundraising throughout all four years)
I have participated in other community service projects including playing the piano for retirement home residents, assembling toiletry baskets for Hurricane Katrina victims, volunteering at food banks and homeless shelters, and American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. These other activities add up to roughly 200 hours total.

Other Important (or maybe not important?) Factors:
-I will be paying for my own college/graduate school
-My cousin is my legal guardian. My mother died when I was seven and I don't know who my father is. I'm hoping I can use my experiences to write some compelling essays. Also, if you know of any scholarships for adopted, single-parent children, etc., that would be great!

I'd like to go to medical school eventually, but I don't know if I necessarily want to major in science. I was looking at Finance, Management Science, Physiology, or Exercise Science.

I know this was really long. Thanks so much for your input!

EC’s don’t count. CSU’s only use your GPA and SATs.
You’ll get in fairly easily. Its very easy to get into SFSU. The only hic is that you’re out of state. San Franciscans can get in even with a 2.9 or below.
Hope you’ll get in nexxt year though!

Wow I never knew that about CSU schools. EC’s don’t count for anything? That sucks! :)

update: 28 ACT, 1870 SAT (610 CR, 610 Math, 650 Writing)
:)

You should have no problems getting in.

SFSU is one of my son’s top choices. I saw the campus in February, didn’t speak with anyone yet. I am curious…what attracts most people to this campus? I want to help my son make an informed decision. I know from my point of view the cost is reasonable even for an out of state student in comparison to USF.

The first thing that attracted me to SFSU is that it’s one of the few universities that offer a physiology major. Next, I am originally from California and I’d love to return-I just don’t want to pay a ridiculous amount to do it. I also prefer to live in a big city and San Francisco definitely fits the bill. :)

Congratulations to you! Does SFSU have a good reputation? My son was accepted as an International Studies Major. Is SFSU a good school for that major?

Thanks for your input, it is valuable. Have a great day.

I don’t know much about it, but from what I’ve heard, the institution at which you complete your undergraduate studies doesn’t matter-it’s graduate school that counts.

It has been quiet here. Anything going on? Anyone else get accepted to SFSU?

I have! I was accepted months ago as a transfer student in Anthropology. I got wait listed at Cal-Poly SLO so I think SFSU is the school for me. I’m from San Jose (40 mi. away from SFSU) and I’ve always loved this city, so I’m not too bent out of shape about it.
As far as reputation goes, I think that it measures up to any other CSU to be quite honest. It doesn’t get as much play as the UC’s, but college is what you make of it…especially if you’re planning to pursue graduate work (as I am), which SFSU is known for.

Here’s for my last two years of under grad!

I was accepted a couple months ago with the cinema major.

congratulations to both of you-best of luck to everyone! :)
