Hey guys,
I am the first person in my family to be going to college, so I am beyond nervous. I like in NY so I've applied to schools in state because of the cost. The school I really want to attend is SUNY UBuffalo.
My student profile is as follows:
I currently have a 94 close to 95 cumulative average. My SATs are 560 Math 510 Critical Reading and 450 Writing, they're not the best but I could'nt afford SAT prep classes. My regents are decent:
99 english
93 us history
90 living enviorment
86 alegbra
83 global
78 geometry
56 trig (i know it's terrible but I will be retaking)

My senior year I have taken one College Now class, Philosophy at Brooklyn College and it's pending grade.

I am in the Arista National Honors Society and was a Posse Nominee
I have done a lot of community service in my Advisory Program. I was involved in volleyball, newspaper club, internship and an afterschool leadership program.

I really want to get into SUNY univeristy at Buffalo, what are my chances?

that’s what I was worried about, should i consider retaking the SATs? I make it into the average percentile but by a thread. I used up my two fee waivers, ohh and I am applying to the pharmacy program.

We have a friend who was a Posse finalist. Although she didn’t make the final cut, her application was circulated to all the Posse partner colleges and she got some great offers from small private schools with wonderful financial aid.

Possee was intimidating, the high school I attend isn’t very prestigious, only offers 2 AP classes Spanish and Media Studies, therefore I don’t have any APs. And I don’t have many awards so I considered Possee as an award?

I just have two awards then, I’ve been reading the profiles of students who have applied in the past to Univeristy at Buffalo or are going to and they have much more to offer, student profile wise. I feel like my chance aren’t that great but I believe I applied during rolling admissions.

I actually called into the admissions office with my guidance counselor and the guy who was responding from the EOP office said that my gpa was too high for me to be applying EOP.

lol. I applied to EOP and they sent me an email saying im grades are too high as well. This EOP process doesn’t make any sense. It should be given to kids who are very low income but have the potential to succeed and have decent grades not lower grades. They should based it off from SAT scores not GPA. Atleast GPA indicates success. But yeah even with your high GPA, im pretty sure you will get admitted. I hard people getting around that stats and got in so you’re fine.

Hopefully, but I totally agree that EOP should be offered to low income students who show potential. But I am still worried I will be wait listed or rejected. We won’t know until March but I hope my SATs won’t be the reason I don’t get accepted.

I heard they take in anyone and they do hollistic evaluations so I really think you will be fine If you do get rejected, it’s probably not because of SAT scores. They need a good reason to reject applicants.

Last time I checked, a low SAT score is a valid reason to reject an applicant and colleges do it all the time.

@OP

Your GPA looks really good, but your SAT score is low for Buffalo and could possibly keep you out. Buffalo only looks at Reading and Math which are your two best sections, so that helps.

I would try to take it one more time if possible, and I wouldn’t necessarily take the ACT. It’s a little late in the game to be trying a completely new test you have never seen before. You don’t need an expensive prep class, so that’s no excuse not to study. The collegeboard gives you a free practice test on their website so you can use that if you haven’t already. Also take a look in your local library’s test prep section and see if they have any SAT books you can take out. A 1150-1200 (Math and CR) is what you should be realistically aiming for to be competitive at UB.

But remember, they do look at other stuff such as GPA, course rigor, essay, recommendations, ECs, etc., so even if your SAT score is low you still have a chance if everything else is where it should be.

Okay well a low SAT does certainly hurt you but if her GPA is high, it will somewhat make uo for it. I know many people with low SATs but high GPA and got accepted.

I agree that a high GPA will definitely help but if the OP has the money they might as well try to maximize their chances by taking the SAT once more.

Well I checked the date for the next SATs which is January 26th, which means I would get the results sometime in Feburary, the thing is March is when they send out letters, I’m afraid by Feburary they have already looked at my student profile.

It’s rolling admission. When did you send your application in? if you did send in your application early, they probably already looked at your application. But decisions start going out sometime in Feb.- March
