Questions:
Is it easier to get into TAMS if you are a girl?
What is the average SAT score of TAMS entrants?
How many hours per week would you say TAMS kids study?

TAMS junior here! I can’t tell if you would get into TAMS, since you did not specify if you are a girl, and you did not say which high school or school district you are from. How involved were your extracurriculars? Have you ever earned any awards?

Yes. I understand that TAMS get much fewer female applicants, and they wish to have as many boys as they have girls.

It’s way higher than what you actually need to get in. Your other post about needing a 650/600/600 to get in is accurate. That said, I’m still trying to remember what they told us, because they had the average math+critical reading score on one of the powerpoints. I believe the average M+CR score for class of 2016 was about 1390.

It varies widely. I think I study about 15 hours per week on normal weeks. I got one B, an 89 (I was really sad), but otherwise I got As. I know a lot of kids study 30 hours per week, and most of them have over 93 in each class. I think the a lot of kids who drop out because of grades studied less than 7 hours per week.

@hamolton Thank You! I am a female from Prestonwood Christian Academy in Plano, Tx. Other than the medical related extracurriculars I ran cross country and played basketball along with other sports in grades 7-10. I earned numerous sports awards but not very many academic awards other than honor role type stuff. Any other insight you could give me would be greatly appreciated!!

Does TAMS put much weight on the writing portion of the SAT? I did well on the CR and M portions put not so well on the writing.

no, they dont.(atleast not in my case) I feel like the amount application from specific part of the state, has a big impact on it. Cuz, no one else from my school applied, so i feel like that increased my chances. Also, no, i dont think they care too much abour cr or m portion, but that being said, try to do well, but put more emphasis on math. Also, take as many ap science classes as you can(try to do well on them). That will increase your chances a lot.

Alright its not like girls are going to get a free walk just because of their gender but when compared to a guy with the same qualifications as you, you would be more LIKELY to get in. You should be reliant on the gender bias in order to get in because it’s not set in stone. As far as average SAT scores go, its on the TAMS website but I personally know people that got 1700’s but I also know people that got 2380’s and got in. I personally didn’t have a stellar score but I got in. Finally, to answer your last question, it depends how much you study. If you can comprehend all the material first time around, great, but most people need more than one read to gain a comprehensive understanding. It’s very hard to come up with a number but I would say maybe 3-5 hours a day total. Obviously there are exceptions but I think that 3-5 hours is an average range of time. Hope this answers your questions!
P.S. The interview matters the most in my opinion, show them how much you genuinely want to go to TAMS. Good luck!
As long as you’re invested in your education, meaning you actually care, you should be fine with the awards. Don’t sweat it too much, I know this is going to sound cliche but you have to really want it. From what I’ve experienced, if you really really want to go and express that confidently at the interview and ace the super easy algebra test, you’ll get in
Okay! Thanks for your advice! @Therealog
Got accepted into the TAMS class of 2017!
Hey guys,
As an applicant to TAMS as a sophomore, is it better to apply Early Decision or Regular??What are the pros/cons of each?
Thanks
I believe early decision gives you an advantage.
