What are my chances of getting into the college of my dreams?

Hey guys.
I really need a lot of help.
I'm a freshman in highschool, yes, i know..i have a few years until i need to start worrying about college. But, i already know the college i want to go to & that would be The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
I'm not the smartest person. I make A's & B's & occasionally some C's. Mainly in Math. My best subject is Biology, or anything dealing with Science. Also i LOVE soccer.
Going to UNC is my dream; I have always wanted to go there. But there are a few problems to that.
I live out of state. I live in South Carolina..which isn't too far away from Chapel Hill...Only about 4 or 5 ours from where i live.
It costs a lot of money to go there.
I wanna go to this school so bad..if i don't i'll feel like a failure. Please help me with some advice or ANYTHING! I just need help!
Thanks in advance. :)

study hard, enjoy your high experience, do ecs and community service that you love to do, not just to impress college admissions, keep your grades
:)

Well, you haven’t really given us much detail. Do you have any indication of what you want to do? Do you know your current SAT scores? What kind of activities do you enjoy/want to pursue further? We can’t help you without knowing more about you.

I plan on playing soccer this year for my school, I’m also in the FFA at my school.
Also, i’d like to major in maybe…Biology or anything in the Science field.
I haven’t took any SAT’s yet…but i’m gonna start taking them this May…for practice.

Well then, my advice is: Enjoy high school.

What’s that suppose to mean??

Getting in UNC out of state is tough. You’d need a GPA close to a 4.0 unless you were recruited for soccer. Do well on the SAT - like 1500+/1600. Do extracurricular activities that you enjoy. Go far in those ECs. Good luck.

My advice is this:

Its good that you are aiming high and wanting to attend UNC will probably keep you motivated to get good grades and study hard.

But I’ll agree that you are a frehman and you deserve to enjoy highschool. don’t let this eat your mind. Think back to how you were in 5th grade, four years ago. Have you changed at all during that time? I know I did. The same can happen between now and senior year.

I’m not trying to discourage you I’m just saying: be open. I know schools I wated to attend as a Freshman (either stanford or Brown) are very different from the schools I ended up applying to (Bryn Mawr, Rice). I wouldn’t have discovered my love for my new schools if I was so glued to my old ones!

Even if you do still love UNC when it comes time to apply (entirely possible, its an excelent school) then again, don’t let that love keep you from finding other possible schools. Especially with such a difficult admit as UNC it will be important to love thy safety.

Good Luck!

Thank you both!

cbp2cbp2- My GPA as of now is a 3.8.

mcclee- Yes, i have changed a lot since 5th grade. I started caring more about my studies. The whole big thing is that i have a big fear of rejection & i’m scared that i won’t get accepted. I’m gonna find some other schools to apply for too, just incase i don’t get accepted into UNC.
