@saules I wish her the best! It would be funny if we both go to the same school
at this point, i’m just on the hunt for NYU scholarships
Is there a certain date you should apply by to be considered for the scholarships?
@saules yeah i believe it was december 1st for the presidential & trustee scholarship for BU. NEU does not have a date tho
also, are there any other schools you think I should apply to? like any other ivy’s? or just any other prestigious schools in general?
Or do u guys think NYU is the best target school for me?
Wouldn’t it just be! She was accepted to Tulane but she has yet to visit.
My daughter is applying to Tulane - got in already. she plans to apply to Fordham, Upenn, Cornell, Brown, Upenn, BU & NYU. She will also apply to Penn State. She has not yet visited Tulane but they gave her a decent merit scholarship so she will make the trip to visit. It would be funny if you end up at the same place. She absolutely loves BU & NYU.
Yeah, I am happy cause I know BU will give me a lot of money & it’s a GREAT #2 for me. But NYU has always been my dream school. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I want to go there. It is just the financial aspect. So, I plan on applying for as many scholarships as I can over and after Christmas break. I really hope I get in! But yeah, if she got into Tulane, she definitely has a great chance at those other schools. If she liked BU & NYU, chances are she prefers a city like campus like i do. CONGRATS TO HER THO!
Also, do you guys think I’d be better of just ED’ing to NYU to increase my chances? Or just doing regular decision for all of them? Pros & cons to NYU ED2? I would apply to CAS for poli sci.
If worse comes to worst, though, would I be able to get out of it if I can’t afford it and then just wait for my regular decision acceptance from BU?
I think applying ED2 increases your chances significantly. Since it’s clearly your top school I would do the ED2.
I’m trying to think of the cons of applying ED2 to NYU but I can’t come up with any unless you change your mind and it’s no longer your top choice. But even then, like you said, you can get out of it if you don’t like their financial aid offer.
I can think of plenty of “cons” of NYU ED2 for this applicant.
1 is that all the energy and effort put into this application is almost certainly being wasted (very low chance of acceptance, even lower chance of it being remotely affordable)
2 is that there is probably a much better choice for ED2
The only positive aspect is that a rejection letter is likely to arrive sooner, and he can move on.
Wow. completely inaccurate information. Numerous people at my school have been accepted to NYU with extremely similar stats, it is not like I am applying to stern. I don’t appreciate the negativity. kindly fuck off
Don’t ask for people’s opinions if you don’t want to hear them.
Looking over your other threads, and putting aside the issue of actually getting in, plenty of other people have pointed out that NYU isn’t going to be remotely affordable for you, to which your response largely seems to be “But I really want to go there!”
It’s your life and your future, do what you want, and live with the consequences.
Prove me wrong!
@brxndon I think an application to NYU for early decision 2 is worth it if it’s your top choice. Also, NYU has a pretty flexible testing policy. See below but also make sure you look at their site for the specifics as it’s not just any tests.
•The SAT Reasoning Test; OR.
•The ACT; OR.
•Three SAT Subject Test scores; OR.
•Three AP exam scores; OR.
Additionally, I would call the admissions office and ask what the average SAT scores are for ED. Most colleges report they are a lot lower than RD. I might have said this earlier, but BU told us at an information session this summer that the Average ACT scores for ED are 26-30. BU regular decision average ACT score is 31 so as you can see the difference is significant. Sorry I don’t remember the SAT scores as my daughter took the ACT instead of the SAT.
Good luck!
You would probably want to bring up your SAT scores if you are trying to be competitive. ED’ing something that will not raise your chances by a significant enough amount if used elsewhere is an oversight. Being Gay (although I support it) isn’t really a hook either, and Hispanic is becoming a less valued URM. Perhaps your ED could be used somewhere more cost effective and feasible is what I’m saying. Also CC will give you sugarcoated opinions, so if you are fishing for ego-boosters I am afraid the community is largely unresponsive to that (I learned the same way you did haha). Best regards –
*unsugarcoated (it got autocorrected as I do not believe it is a word)
