Umich is my dream school, but I’m nervous that my sat is holding me back. I have a 1200 composite score; however,I have a 4.28 gpa which is pretty strong. I’m also in the top 7% of my class, first generation, and Latino if that helps. I know no one can tell me for sure if I can get in, but do I look like a solid candidate?
Yes, you could do better, especially if you are out of state and pursuing engineering or business.
The last SAT you could take before EA is Sept.
At the moment I think Michigan is out of your range.
Good luck though. Plenty of other great institutions available
Michigan only looks at unweighted scores so redo you GPA A=4,B=3 and so on. Look at naviance for your school and see who got in last year with your stats. 1200 is a very low score for Michigan. Retake them. Apply early.
Alright thanks for that reality check. I was probably getting way to excited anyways. But I’m planning on majoring in kinesiology, so it isn’t as competitive to get into like the Ross school of business. Unweighted I have a 4.0 gpa and yes I am taking the act in September.

Look at the sat /act that they are suggesting
Hi Diegoc1177,
I’m not quite sure what your odds are as a high school student entering Umich, but you can always attend a community college and then transfer-- if it is your school of choice. With 58 community college credits, I’ve been accepted without any issues. My ACT scores were low and my high school GPA wasn’t great either.
You’ll need a 1350+ SAT to get into UM straight out of high school. You won’t get in with a 1200.
Although UM drools over 4.0 GPAs, being Latino and first gen will help you significantly more at other schools that consider these factors more heavily in admissions.
Update, so I’ve been getting tutoring for the ACT and my score ranges from 27-28. Does this help or are my chances still low?
The UMich freshman profile for 2018-2019 lists the mid 50% ACT as 31-34. You kinda like to be at least in that range somewhere, if possible. Good luck.

I already listed it for her field above. It’s 28-31… Your only a few questions correct away!
