I am going to be starting the application process soon for colleges and am curious of my chances of getting into each of these colleges just to get a feel for what is worth applying to:

Cal Poly SLO
UC Santa Barbara
UC Davis
UC San Diego
UC Berkeley
USC
Stanford

Background info on me:
3.92 GPA Unweighted
Approximately 4.25 Weighted
APs in: Math, Science, and English.
I received 2 B's in highschool and both were in 1st semester sophomore year (English & Spanish)

2030 SAT

Most important ECs: Track and Field, Volunteering, Job (Family friend's business...low hours).

I will be applying as a Chemical/Materials Engineer and I do live in California.

Additionally any advice on anything I should do to increase my chances of getting in would be appreciated!

Stanford: Reach (for everyone)
UCB/UCSD: High Match
UCSB/UCD/USC/SLO: Match
I would look for 1-2 more schools as safeties such as UCR/UCSC. UC admissions can be unpredictable. Write great essays.
For Stanford you would need something more unique for your EC’s. Internship in your major or a summer program possibly. Good Luck

Get that SAT way, way up.

Stanford: Very high reach
UCB/UCSD: High reach/reach
UCSB/UCD/USC/SLO: Match

I appreciate all of the replies! I see that many of the colleges I listed would be considered “match” for me. I am wondering what exactly “match” means in terms of ability to get in?

Additionally, it seems like I would need a few safe schools. I think that CSU Long Beach and Cal Poly Pomona would be some good safe schools for me because they have chemical/materials engineering but I am having trouble finding others. What other colleges (preferably in California or at least west coast) would be considered safe for me that would have chemical engineering and/or materials engineering?

Thanks!

A “match” means that you will likely get in to it.

caveat: Be sceptical about the advice you receive here. I do not want to point anyone out, but Stanford is not a “reach” for you - as @Nflpackers96 said. Your extracurricular activities are severely lacking for that school, so it should be considered a “high reach” at best for you.

Yes I’m not expecting to get into Stanford I realize that my chances are low but it is very near where I live and it is such a great school it is probably worth just applying to anyway because it would be great if I got in.

Does anyone know of any other safe/match schools with good chem/materials engineering programs along the west coast?

UCR is very underrated but their Bourne College of Engineering has an excellent reputation. UCR has a Guaranteed Admission program with the application available in July. You need a Weighted GPA of 3.9, SAT of 1600 or ACT 23.
I also think CSULB and CPP are good safeties. Good Luck

Are you wanting to look a California or are would you like some recommendations for safety schools in other area?
Also, I notice that you only have three AP courses, is there a limited amount available (my school only offers six APs all of which students are only allowed to take senior year) or were those just the ones the choose to take? Some schools really care about seeing that you took the most difficult classes possible.
