I’m a freshman in high school looking into applying for a few prep schools in the nation. I know that I can’t determine my acceptance just by a few review, but I just want to get a background on what I’m going to expect. I’ve applied to 7 schools:
Hill School
Phillips Exeter
Phillips Andover
Lawrenceville Academy
Choate Rosemary Hall
Peddie School
Kent School
I’m currently taking the most difficult classes my school can offer me as a freshman. I’m in this program that would allow me to take math and science course two years above my grade level. Currently, I’m taking a few AP classes as a freshman.
AP Biology: A-
Latin: A
Honors Algebra 2: A
Band: A+
Honors English 2: A
AP European History: A+
Stem Research and Design 1: A+
I’m currently on the school swim team. I’m also in art club and I’m planning on helping out with stage crew for a school production. I play the flute in my school band and I got the highest chair out of the freshman class with 1 year of experience in playing the flute. I’ve been playing piano for 9 years outside of school and I also taught myself drums and guitar. I used to play violin with the school orchestra. I’m currently trying to learn the trumpet and the harmonica. I also do community service. I volunteer at the SPCA and I helped out with the soup kitchen. In school, my science project was picked to be represented at my country science fair. Only 21 kids were picked out of my entire school. I’m also participating in poetry out loud at my school. I danced ballet for 3 years and tap danced for 2 years. I’ve also done karate for 6 years. This is my first year taking Latin. I’ve also taken French for 2 years. I’m also planning on doing either crew or track this spring season. I ran for class president, but unfortunately, I didn’t win. During 8th grade graduation, I gave a speech in front of my whole program and was the one leading the gift ceremony for all the teachers.
I took my SSAT a few days ago and my scores are not out yet. I’m also applying for financial aid for all of these schools. I think I did pretty well in my interview. Due to the snow storm this year, I was not able to do the interview at the school so everything was online. My interviewers were really interested and I think I did really well in that area. My Exeter interview was 2 hours with an alumni. I told my interviewers my baking business and they were really impressed and interested in this idea. Overall, this part of the application was fine. I’ve sent my teachers the recommendation to fill out and they were really supportive of me to pursue my prep school interests.
I’m also a first generation Asian and my parents were immigrants. I have no other family members that attended any of these schools. I can speak both English and Mandarin.I live in New Jersey and I’m applying for 10th grade for the fall of 2018.
If you can give me any feedback and just overall my chances of getting into one of these schools will be great. I know I can’t base my acceptance off of this discussion, but anything would help.
