So there’s only ONE online intermediate algebra class at my dumb school. Haha. And of course it’s fully taken up and closed and it says “may waitlist.” So you have the option to put yourself on the waitlist, however I noticed it says there’s only 4 waitlist seats available and I was #10 on the priority list. So does that mean it would be impossible to get in since there’s only 4 possible waitlist seats?
Someone suggested to “just show up on the first day and see if she’ll add you” but like…that doesn’t sound like it’s allowed. Showing up for a class you aren’t registered for? What? Maybe college is just a lot more laid back than I expected, because I know that would never fly in high school lol. And either way, I can’t do that because this is a “partially” online class with no dates or times of where to attend.
And my school is not allowing me to sign up for a different intermediate algebra course AND be on the waitlist for this intermediate algebra course at the same time, which is ridiculous because I don’t want to wind up not getting into this waitlisted class only to find out all the other intermediate algebra classes are totally filled up. Then I’m really screwed.
What do you think? With only “4 waitlist seats available” and being #10, does that sound impossible? I’m at a community college btw, not university. I’m leaning towards not risking it, but I want to know.
At many schools, you cannot be enrolled in one section and on the waitlist for another section of the same class.
If the section with seats works for you, take it.
You really need to talk to someone who has experience at your school or email the professor directly. Schools have different policies (i.e. mine does not have a cap on the number of waitlist seats), and the likelihood of you getting off the waitlist depends on how frequently people drop.
I’m also confused about your comment about a different intermediate algebra course. Why not just take that one?
Depends on your college. But, generally, yes you can go to a class you’re not registered for. This applies to both small and big courses. Of course, explain to the professor what your situation is if it’s a small class. If it’s a big class, nbd, he/she probably won’t even notice you.
on that topic. An option would be to stay on the waitlisted class, go to class unregistered and hopefully by week 2/3 a chunk of the class has dropped out.
If i were you, i would find out who the professor is and send them an email. Briefly talk about your situation and ask about the likely hood of getting in. How has it been in the past? Do alot of students drop out? Etc? are they willing to give you an access code to by-pass the cap?
Also, if they’re like “oh you just have to see”, ask them about Week 1 homework and a sylabus. Of course, i’m assuming you don’t have access to any of the course work so you need to get the somehow.
Maybe I didn’t make it clear enough, but like I said there is only one ONLINE intermediate algebra course. There’s plenty of other non-online ones, but I much prefer online because I’m probably going to be super overwhelmed as it is with my 18 unit course load.
But how would this work if it’s an online course? I don’t believe there’s anywhere to “show up” so I don’t really understand what options I have in this scenario haha. It’s frustrating.
If you’re too overwhelmed by your schedule to take an in-class class, your schedule is too much. The actual going to class part of your class is often what takes up the LEAST amount of time.
