ACT is a 28.
President of the outdoor adventure club.
Varsity basketball for 3 years.
Varsity volleyball for 2 years.
400+ hours of community service junior and senior year.
Global community service.
Excellent letters of recommendation and essays.</p>

I go to a small private school that doesn’t offer many AP classes.
And I don’t know the unweighted, my school doesn’t do that.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, your ACT score is below par for Tulane. :(</p>
<p>CollegeBoard reports that the mid-50% range for the ACT is a 29-32, which means your score doesn’t hit the 25% mark for admittees to Tulane.</p>
<p>Here’s what I’d do:
Study for the ACT, retake, and get a 30 or higher.
Have great essays and recs, which you should, according to your post.
Showcase your passions, what you love, and <em>what you will contribute to the school if you are accepted.</em></p>
<p>You have a shot. You gave limited info… what’s your ethnicity? state of residency? could you possibly be recruited for sports? did a family member attend Tulane?</p>

<p>(Also, from they way your post sounded, your unweighted GPA is a 3.8, and you’re not sure what your weighted GPA is. The terms are confusing.)</p>
<p>I think it’s more of a match.</p>
<p>By definition decrescendo is correct, your ACT is below “par” if par is average. However also by definition of the 25-75% range he gave, 25% do have 28 or less, so certainly not impossible. However there is no question it is a reach for you at this point, kobudnik is incorrect about the match. Match should mean you are around the 50% level, and both your ACT and your weighted GPA are just below Tulane’s lower percentile students. That’s virtually the definition of a reach. Not an extreme reach, just certainly not a match. I am not trying to be mean or pessimistic, but I am sure you want reality.</p>

<p>^But how could she know her weighted but not her unweighted? Doesn’t make sense… anyone can know their unweighted, just turn all classes into a 4.0 scale and get your unweighted. It made sense that she didn’t know her weighted because many high schools don’t weight GPA (don’t give more credit for AP, honors, etc.).</p>
<p>Well, apparently her school does the opposite, only showing the weighted GPA for whatever extra points they add for honors courses. I have actually seen a few students say their schol does this. But you are right, it is easy to put together a spreadsheet that calculates everything on an unweighted basis. I did exactly that for both my kids because their school changed to a new system and for a while everything was screwed up, so I wanted to make sure the numbers were right.
