Hi, I’m a highschool freshman from South Dakota, and UC Berkeley is one of my dream schools. I have a 3.8 GPA, I am the founder of my county’s chapter of High School Democrats. I’m a member of the South Dakota High School Democrat’s State Board, I am the President of my 4-H club, member of the Golf and Tennis team, varsity debate member, founding member of my school’s FBLA chapter, and got in the 96th percentile and above on my ACT Aspire. This directly translates to a 32 on the ACT, if the website was reliable.
UCB like all the UC’s does not include Freshman grades (10-11th grades only) in their GPA calculation. You are on the right track with your grades, test scores, EC’s but no one can determine your chances especially since you have not even finished your Freshman year of HS. Many things can change and happen between now and end of Junior year. Keep doing what your are doing, take a rigorous HS course load, enjoy your time in HS and in the end. you will end up at college that is your best fit.
Since you are out of state, be aware that UCB and all the other UC’s do not offer financial aid so expect to pay full fees at $60K+/year and higher by the time you apply. Start saving your money now. Also the UC’s have capped the OOS/International students so it will just become that more competitive.
