What are my chances of getting into UC Berkeley?

I’m pretty sure it’s unlikely but I want a more qualified opinion.

Unweighted GPA: 3.7
(I think I can pull it up to a 3.8 fairly soon though)

SAT: 710 evidence based reading & writing
540 math
=1250 overall (yes I know my math is low, this was my first try without any classes or assistance in studying. I’m retaking it and have placed an emphasis on practicing math. I’m aiming for at least a 1300.)

I have two recommendations, one from my Literature teacher and the other from my AP U.S. History teacher.

I take 4 AP/Honors classes (Chemistry, History, Java Programming, and English). I also take Horror Literature, Latin, Algebra II, and Theology III.

For ECs I am a part of the Model UN Secretariat (next year I’ll be President but am currently Treasurer), National Junior Classical League, and Latin Club.

Accomplishments: I co-organized a Peacekeeping Awareness week where MUN raised money to donate to the UN Peacekeepers. I’ve won a Distinguished award on my MUN Position Paper as Sweden. I’ve been published in my school’s academic journal. I won the Magna Cum Laude award on the Latin National Exam.

More personal accomplishments that I was told would be beneficial to my app: self published a novella when I was 12, I have composed several musical pieces and can play 4 instruments, I have had a play I wrote performed at my school, and I have volunteered for 2 years at a convent, and, currently, at an animal shelter and elementary school library.
Thank you for reading.

What’s your weighted gpa? I think it’s very unlikely you’ll get in. Your sat is low for them and it’ll be nearly impossible to get it up into the mid 50% range. Your ECs look good, but you seem to be lacking in rigor. How many ap and honors classes does your school offer?

I am assuming you are a Junior? For the SAT, aim for at least a 1350+.

Also calculate your UC GPA capped/weighted and uncapped fully weighted at the end of Junior year: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

You have some good EC’s and awards so you are on the right track. Continue to work hard, get your GPA and test scores up into the 50th percentile range and you might have a decent chance.

Looking at the Freshman profile is helpful to gauge your chances: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/campuses/files/freshman-profiles/freshman_profile_berkeley.pdf

Only 5, algebra being the only class I chose not to take the advanced version of.

Well, colleges do receive school profiles so they know if your honors/AP options were limited. Both your GPA and SAT are nevertheless on the low side, so certainly you should aim to get a 1400+ on your SAT to compensate for your GPA. (GPA being the harder metric to change here.) Obviously, math should be your focus while studying. After that, throw together a strong application (letters, extracurriculars, and essays) and you should have a not-insignificant chance.

I am sorry but everyone here has been giving crap answers. How in the world is a 3.8 GPA low? These commenters do not know what they are talking about. When I was a senior my unweighted GPA was exactly 3.7 and my ECs were not nearly as impressive as yours and I got into Cal. Given that your school only offers 5 APs (correct?) I think your GPA and course load is fine and also very unique.
However, do improve your SAT- you did fine in the reading but def get up in math- get a SAT tutor if feasible and do every practice test with problems you can get your hands on.
It seems like writing is your thing, so I am sure your statement was spectacular. Do not be discouraged by some of these extremely inaccurate comments.

…and when you were a senior was within the past few years? Berkeley has become extremely competitive, and a middle-of-the-pack GPA with a weak test score probably won’t cut it.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1903428-faq-uc-historical-frosh-admit-rates-by-hs-gpa.html has some information on past admit rates by HS GPA (UC weighted-capped calculation).

@KingBibi I graduated high school in 2014- and admissions to Cal have only increased since then so I am sure the criteria for admission has not changed much either.
