What are my chances of getting into UC: Riverside?

Hello all,

I am currently a Junior in High School and I was wondering what my chances of getting into UCR are currently.

GPA (cumulative): 3.35
SAT: 1120 (I didn’t study for my first one so I know i can improve this)
ACT:24 ( (I also didn’t study for my first one so I know i can improve this)

  • I have co-founded a (religious) club at school where I help organize community service events
  • I am also treasurer of Chess/Checkers Club
  • About 150 hours of Community Service
  • I also work at In-N-Out (time management between school and work?)
  • I teach kids math in my T/A period and I will be a senior mentor next year

As for personal struggles I used to be overweight (by quite a bit) and I lost 70 lbs (thought this showed a kind of dedication to what i do) since the beginning of Junior Year. I also have struggled with depression (thought that this could explain why my GPA is lower than it used to be (not an excuse)) since the beginning of my Sophomore year.

Thank you in Advance

You need to calculate your UC GPA: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

Intended major? Much depends upon your intended major since the more competitive the major, the higher stats are needed for the best chances.
Definitely do some test prep…

Here is the Freshman Profile for 2016 so you can get an idea of where you stand:

GPA and test scores of middle 25%-75% students

High School GPA UC: 3.52 - 4.00
ACT Composite Score: 22 - 29
SAT Critical Reading: 490 - 620
SAT Mathematics: 510 - 670

Your weight loss would make a good essay, but I would refrain from mentioning too much about your depression (Red Flag to admissions).

Take SAT preparation classes and/or tutoring before you retake the SAT. It makes a significant difference.

Idk man, this year I got waitlisted with a 3.9 gpa, and it’s getting harder every year. I suggest you choose a major that is not as impacted as others if you want to go to UCR. Your GPA is quite low for their standards, and it seems that GPA and SAT are what matters when an AO is reviewing your app. I talked about how I almost died my sophomore year due to my anemia and how that really affected my schoolwork negatively as I was in and out of the hospital. You can’t reason with UCs tho lmao they dgaf.
