What are my chances of getting into UCI, CSULB, and CSUF as an OOS student?

I live in WA but my heart is set on SoCal (I love the weather and Disneyland).
Stats:
GPA: 4.0
SATs:
CR 550
M 620
W 580
Total 1750

I play violin in my school's orchestra and I'm actually the concertmaster. I'll also be playing varsity basketball this year. I don't have a lot of extracurricular besides these because I'm not really interested in anything else. But, I do plan on volunteering at a local humane society later in the year. I'm in a program called Running Start in which juniors and seniors can attend a community college and take up to 15 credits of college classes per quarter so by the time I graduate, I'll have 85 college credits from RS. I don't know if that affects anything. Hopefully some of the credits will transfer but if not, whatever. (I plan on calling on Monday and asking a lot of questions). I also plan on taking the SATs again in November so that I can improve my scores, especially in critical reading. I want to major in Business. I really want to get into one of these schools but my top choice is CSULB.

I've heard it's really hard for an OOS student to get in because they give priority to local students who apply but I'm going to try anyway. Any feedback is appreciated!

You’ll get in but that’s not the question you should be asking. Can you pay full fees? There is no financial aid for OOS. long beach gets almost 80k apps per year. Your 1750 SAT won’t get you in.

As an OOS, you need to calculate your UC/CSU GPA, see link: <a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Cal State Apply | CSU; Also as an OOS student, you can only use your AP classes taken Sophomore/Junior year for the extra Honors points in the calculation. Also be aware of the a-g course requirements. The year long fine art requirement trips many students up.

You do not state your intended major, which will make a big difference on acceptance due to impaction. Impacted majors have higher requirements than non-impacted.

For UCI, you want to have a UC/CSU GPA of 3.9+, and SAT around 1850. You might want to consider retaking if possible. Here is the Freshman Profile for 2014:
http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/campuses/irvine/freshman-profile/index.html</a></p>

Like @auntbea stated, CSULB may be difficult with the SAT result depending upon major. For STEM majors, you need a minimum of 3900 El. EI is calculated as follows: (UC/CSU GPA x 800) + (SAT Math + SAT CR).

CSUF (Assuming Fullerton): This school is a match.

You are aware that you will get little or no financial aid at these schools since your OOS.
UCI will cost around $53-55K and the Cal States around $30K

Good luck.

Look into Southern California’s private institutions like Chapman, Loyola, Azuza Pacific, Whittier, Occidental or Biola instead of public colleges and universities.

My son got into CSULB’s Chemical Engineering major this year with a 1670 and a high GPA, as an in-state student, but the financial aid was not good.

@aunt bea - I’m confused by what you’re saying. First, you say that I’ll get in but at the end you say that I will not get in. I’m confused because the 1750 is way above average for the school. However, I do realize that since I’m an OOS student, it’ll be more competitive so I’ll probably want an 1800+ (and I’m shooting for a 2000 next time).

@Gumbymom‌ - I actually did state that I want to major in business and that I will be taking the SATs again. I checked and my EI (not STEM) is 4,370 which is about 800 over the minimum of 3,502. Also, I just have an unweighted GPA of 4.0. I have not taken any AP classes because I’m in Running Start full-time (15 credits a quarter) and can therefore only take one class at my high school which, for me, is orchestra. But I have taken Honors Physics which was in 10th grade. I feel like I’d have a really good chance of getting in if I lived in the area.

@liveonboca‌ - Thank you for the suggestions! I actually have looked into a couple of those but I’m not really interested in going to a Christian university. Plus, they are all pretty expensive.

@simba514: Sorry I missed the Business major. Your EI looks very competitive for both CSUF and CSULB, so if money is not a factor, then you are a Match. UCI would be a Match if you can get that SAT up a bit.
Since your intended major is business, you should consider SDSU.
Good Luck.
