I have been thinking a lot lately about whether I am going to be accepted into UCLA or not and was wondering what you guys think? I am a California resident and have a non weighted gpa of 3.95 and a weighted gpa of 4.39, but, I have a low SAT score of only 1170. However I believe I do have a strong application. I was a California Boy’s State delegate and am apart of many extracurricular activities. Although I do not play sports, I have been apart of Key Club the past four years secretary junior year president senior year, CSF life time member, Link crew leader, top 10, Awana Church youth leader, ASB, Every 15 minutes, environmental club, Vice President of Spanish Club, and numerous community service events in my local community I.e. angle tree prison fellowship and serving at the homeless shelters on holidays. I have taken 6 of the 9 AP courses provided at my school and in my fourth year of Spanish (AP Spanish literature) as I passed my AP Spanish exam last year. I don’t know if this helps but I am also low income, first time generation college student and Hispanic. Let me know what you guys think, thank you.
Did you recieve a supplemental from UCLA? Intended major? Although the UC’s tend to be very GPA focused, your SAT score is way below the 25th percentile. Overall your application looks competitive minus your test scores. UCLA should be considered a Reach due to the competitiveness and the low acceptance rate, so it will be a tough admit but you have a shot.
Best of luck.
No, I have not received a supplemental and not quite sure what that is? I did choose biological sciences as my intended major. Thank you for your input!
The supplemental review allows the UC’s to get more information about you in regards to hardship, lower than average grades and test scores, disabilities etc… so if you are considered a “borderline” applicant, they can request additional information from you. They have already gone out so the deadline has passed. All you can do now is hope for the best.
I’m assuming that can be both a good and bad thing? Good as in I didn’t receive a supplemental as I was above a borderline applicant but bad as in I might have been under borderline and my application has already been denied?
Unfortunately true. Hopefully you applied widely and you have some options in the end.
I applied to 9 different colleges: CSU Chico, CSULB, SJSU, Cal Poly, SDSU, UCD, UCLA, UCSB and UCSD. So far I have been accepted to Chico and Long Beach and my other applications are still pending. Any thoughts on my chances for the other colleges? Thanks for all the advice
I think that you are solid for Chico State and SJSU.
50/50 for SDSU since Biology is probably their most applied and competitive major there.
UCD possible but Biological Sciences is very impacted so 50/50 chance.
UCSD/UCSB will be Reach schools based on your SAT score.
25th - 75th percentiles for SAT:
UCLA: 1280-1500
UCSD: 1250-1470
UCSB: 1210- 1450
UCD: 1190-1430
Best of luck and prove me wrong.
