What are my chances of getting into UC's?

Hi! I'm Helen and I really want to attend (in order):
1) UCI
2) UCLA
3) UCSD
4) UCR
5) UCSB

I am currently a sophomore (second semester) I understand this pretty early; but, I am already freaking out over the whole college admission chaos. :/
(I have, as of right now, over 120 hours of community service. I knit beanies for ill babies. I can easily get 100 more hours during the summer) My PSAT are pretty bad. :*( I score 1670-1870. Yeah, My scores are really inconsistent. I've been tutoring elementary kids twice a week for an hour each since I was in the 7th grade.

ALSO, DO COLLEGES LOOK AT SENIOR YEAR? I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY DON'T SO WHAT'S THE POINT OF TAKING DIFFICULT CLASSES? IF THEY DO, I PLANNED OUT MY YEAR BELOW.

Freshman:
English H-A
Geometry H-A
Biology H-A
World History H-A
PE-A
German 1- A
~Top 100
~Best Buddies Club
~CSF

Sophmore
Algebra 2 H-B
English 2 H- B+
ROP Photography-A
German 2- A
Chemistry H- B
Dance - A
~Best Buddies Club
~FNL Club
~German Club (president)
~COFA
~CSF
So I really screwed up first semester! :*( I am pretty sure the grades will stay the same except I will definitely raise my English grade to an A! I got a 89.5% first semester...

Next year I will be in (Junior):
Pre Calc. Regulars
Ap English
Ap Bio
Ap HUG
Ap US
German 3
~FNL club
~German Club (president)
~COFA
~CSF

I am planning my Senior year to look like:
Ap English LIT
Ap Stats
AP Euro
Ap Psyc
~FNL club
~German Club (president)
~COFA
~CSF

Oh I didn’t think of all of the classes I’ll be taking in senior year! :stuck_out_tongue: Thanks so much!

Helen

@sunnyhelen: It is great you are thinking about college this early.
Here are the stats for the in-coming freshman from 2013 and you can see how you compare.
UC’s use only your 10-11 a-g grades in their calculation for UC GPA with up to 8 semesters of approved Honors/AP classes. My sons counselor told him that 10-11 grades will get you in but senior grades will keep you in. They will look at course rigor for senior year but will not use those grades for admission acceptance criteria.
Average GPA for GW/UCI/UCD/UCSD/UCLA/UCB/UCDB is 4.0 weighted or greater
Average GPA for UCSC-3.84
Average GPA for UCR-3.72
Average GPA for UCM-3.52
You did not state in-state or out of state. Out of state students have higher requirements and only AP classes count toward the extra honors points. If your GPA is below these, you would need at SAT 2000+ or ACT 30+ to offset lower GPA. Compelling essays would also help. Good Luck

Just remember that I will be taking German all four years. So I will earn some snazzy language award thing. And I live in California. Will taking 4 Ap classes during my senior year help me get into the UC’s or will they just be not beneficial?

Course rigor in your senior year is important so 4 AP classes will look good but not figure into your UC GPA. Awards are great as long as you receive them before Nov 30 senior year when you do your applications. I would concentrate on getting good grades, do well on your ACT or SAT and continue with your EC’s. Having 4 years with 1 or 2 EC’s looks better on an application than many EC’s. An EC targeting your major area of interest would also help.
