what are my chances of getting into UCSD with Statistics as my transferable math clas

what are my chances of getting into UCSD with Statistics as my transferable math class, as an ECON major?

i cant take precalc as a transferable math class bc I need to get Trig first. (all the summer Trig classes are full and i dont know of my chances w/ crashing the classes) however i am able to take Stats and there are plenty of Stats classes open.

Also, Is Statistics or Precalculus the harder math class?

And does the transferable math class need to be finished in the FALL or SPRING? i know you can't take it immediately before transfer but im not sure if it has to be the Fall a full year before or the Spring half a semester prior to transfer....

doesn’t econ require calc? can you take 2 math classes this summer? you want to be able to get the tag agreement signed but you also need to progress in Math… In order to have a tag agreement you have to have a UC transferrable math completed. Stats is a UC transferrable math but you really need Precalc… can you take both ?

Yeah, Econ ppl need calc…but I hear UCSD is pretty lax as far as prereqs go? i will at least have Econ1/2 done before fall 2011…

I definitely cant take Precalc this summer bc I havent taken Trig yet. I never planned on doing Stats, I was gonna do Trig > Precalc > calc 1 > Calc 2 but i just recently found out I was able to take Stats and have it be my transferable math.

if i somehow succeed in crashing a Trigonometry class this summer, I might be able to take Precalc this Fall, but that of course depends on if the Precalc classes havent filled up. If i am able to do this, I won’t need to take Stats; there’s no point in doing Stats if I’m doing another transferable math.

Im asking this as kind of a worst case scenario thing…if I am unable to enroll in Trig this Fall (summer AND fall sessions are full), I won’t be able to take Precalc till FALL 2011 at the earliest, and if this happens I’ll just take Stats during this fall and use that as a transferable math.

can’t you enroll at another community college to get the math class you need? I know it will be inconvenient but this past semester I took 22 units between 4 different colleges. yes it sucked but you do what you have to do…

Stats was easy… I just finished it this past semester w/ an A. Precal takes more time and encompasses a lot more material but if you have to get through Cal 2 & 3 it is best to be very focused in Trig & Precalc. If you dont know trig that well calc 2 will suck.

good luck.

Stats was incredibly, ridiculously easy. Precalc was the complete opposite. Precalc will look way better on your application. WAY BETTER.

Question is moot if you are doing a TAG though.

UCSD is very lenient with their transfer students. Just get higher than a 3.0 and complete Calc 1/2 before you transfer (hopefully before spring).

i agree with shawneee…just go to another ccc to take it! it would suck having to take an extra math class for nothing and all u really need is ur transferable math class to be in progress when u apply! good luck though

do you NEED to finish the calculus classes before transfer? I thought only UCLA and Cal needed 100% prereq completion for Econ majors…

also, if I wanted to transfer by Fall 2011, when would I need to take the transferable math? am i SOL?

oh my gosh! make it happen and search all community colleges in a 30 mile radius. There really is no excuse not to get your math done. You’ll want to get the bulk of your math done at CC anyway because classes are less expensive and easier I am sure!

I just received admission to UCSD’s Economics program. They require for you to complete multivariable calculus before you are allowed to take upper division classes. I only took Calc I & II. I was admitted but now I am taking Calc III over the summer because I can’t do anything for my major for a quarter otherwise. Plus, do you really want to take MATH 20C at UCSD?

And while Stats will be transferable, so will all of the other math classes (after trig). Personally, I think it’s a waste to take it if it’s not a major requirement and you have otrher classes that will satisfy it.
