I currently have a weighted GPA of 4.35 and an un-weighted GPA of 3.3. My class rank is 60 out of 687 students, putting me in the top 10%. I have taken many AP and honors classes and have been successful in them. I received a 25 on my ACT and a 1850 on my SAT (I can take both tests twice more, so fluctuation of those scores may occur). My extracuriculars include; 4 years of varsity baseball, and participation in my local Coral Springs Fire Explorer program racking up over 350 hours through assistance in local events through the explorer program and Fire Department ride alongs where i was allowed to ride and stay at the stations running innumerable calls with the crew. I also received the 2nd highest rank of lieutenant in the program over my three years. I have competed in BPA and have been a member of National Honor Society for three years. Thank You for your help, and if you need anymore information i would be glad to help!!!!!

Hi! You need to recalculate your weighted GPA. UF’s weighted GPA is based on a 4.0 point scale, with an additional 0.5 points being given for honor/gifted/pre-IB/pre-AICE classes, and an additional 1.0 points for AP/DE/IB/AICE classes.

For example, a B in honors Algebra 2 is worth 3.5 points, a B in AP Calc AB is worth 5.0 points. If your un-weighted GPA is 3.3, your UF weighted GPA will be something less than 4.3.

With all that being said…

The Middle 50% of the 2013 Freshman Class

High School GPA of 4.1 - 4.4
SAT of 1780-2020
ACT of 26 - 31

You’re stats are OK. It would help if you can increase your ACT or SAT score, but UF puts more focus on your GPA and class rigor. You should also start working on your essay; at UF it’s important. Your EC’s seem fine, so UF should be a match, but because of the holistic admission process used by UF, it always seems a bit random. Make sure you apply to at least one other “safety” school! :)

Good Luck!

So would you say I have a good shot or should I apply elsewhere?

I think you have a good shot. Even if you didn’t, you shouldn’t shy away from applying to schools that are a bit of a reach. Take a chance, you never know what can happen.

You have a good shot, but still should apply to a few safety schools. UF’s admissions is just to random to treat it as a safety.

Good Luck!
