You have a decent ACT score and a decent GPA, but your course rigor is lacking. I’d say you might have reasonable chances.

Here is last year’s profile for you to compare yourself with
https://www.admissions.uga.edu/article/first-year-class-profile.html

i’m really surprised you were deferred… i thought UGA was a super easy school to get into, guess i was wrong. good luck!

So you think my chances are okay? Do you think they even care if you took on level chem and physics over physical science and environmental?

UGA is actually very competitive. I was not surprised by my deferral.

I have also had an upward trend on my grades ever since my freshman year. First semester of senior year, my numeric average was 96.6%

I’m not sure where you heard that from sanguinee. Certainly not true.

OP I think you have decent chances. It’s a crap shoot in my book. Your course rigor is very weak.

How did you do on your AP exams?

Physics and chemistry is preferred over environmental science and physical science by most universities.

halycyontimes, I am actually taking my AP classes right now. I am doing well in them, and I think I should make a 4 or 5 on both. I have a B in APES, but my teacher is well known for making her tests harder than the exam. Here were my grades from first semester this year:

College English: 102
AP Environmental Science: 88
AP Psychology: 101
Annual ll (Yearbook):100
Pre Calculus: 96
Economics: 93

I also got 4 teacher recommendations- not sure how much weight they carry.

Like I said, I think you’ve got a decent shot. However, you are below average in terms of course rigor. Many schools are fighting grade inflation by focusing more on standardized test scores and course rigor more than straight GPA. You’re literally in average for every measure except course rigor. I think you might be ok though. Your ECs aren’t bad either.

Your letters of recommendation will also help you. Make sure they’re quality letters. Better two quality letters than five mediocre letters.

Remember, it all depends on the applicant pool! Good luck!

Thanks halcyontimes!I live in North Fulton and attend a really good high school, so I would not consider my GPA to be inflated compared to other high schools in GA.

A lot of people in my school go to higher tier schools than UGA like Penn, Harvard, Emory, Rice, etc and tend to look down upon UGA and consider it easy to get into, that’s why I thought it was easy to get into. I was accepted EA though and auto admitted to the honors program.

sanguinee - Nice little cut, there. Do you feel better now?

@georgia I’m not sure what you’re getting at, but I’m glad to see that UGA is so competitive.

KT12345678, FYI I think UGA only accepts 1 recommendation. I called them prior to applying to find out how many recommendations they would take…they told me, that to make it fair for everyone, they only look at 1 recommendation. In my situation I had a teacher letter and a GC letter. They said they would disregard the GC letter and only look at the one from my teacher.

Also, I want to get some opinions, as I’m really starting to get worried about my chances at UGA! I live in SC and I’m a big GA fan, but my dream school is in NY. I’ve applied to a few selective schools but have never really been worried about being accepted at UGA…that’s starting to change now! I’m seeing a lot of people with WAYYYYY higher test scores than me. I’ve never been a great timed-test taker. Please, I need some feedback.

3.85 unweighted
4.72 weighted

Ranked 7/300

All Honors classes and 6 AP’s

SAT - 1820 (1160 CR & M)
ACT - 28 (UGA counted it as a 29 since they superscore)

EC’s:
Marching band since 8th grade (got special permission to march with HS band as an 8th grader)
Brass Captain - 12
Mellophone Captain - 11, 12
Symphonic Band - 10, 11, 12 (first chair oboe player)
Pep Band - 10, 11, 12
Mock Trial - 10, 11, 12 (received most effective attorney my junior year)
Teacher Aid - 12
Math Club - 12
French Club - 11, 12

Don’t have much volunteer work, other than math tutoring, inside and outside the math club. I also tutor other students with their musical instruments. I volunteered at the special olympics my junior year, and I also help serve food at band events.

Other than that, I have a few other distinctions:
Ithaca College President’s Scholar
Junior Marshall
USC Aiken Scholar
Nominated for U.S. Army Band

Opinions will be greatly appreciated as I’m really starting to get worried.
Like I said, UGA is not my first choice, but it would be nice to know that I have that option available to me in case I can’t afford to go to my dream school. Also UGA is a lot closer to home :-)

I am sure you will be fine, and I asked them. They said they would review the other teacher recs if the teacher has time.

Well that’s good to know. I don’t know why they told me that. I should’ve sent in a couple more letters like I wanted to do lol

I think I am going to get wait listed due to my rigor, which will really suck because I want to attend the University of Georgia so bad :’(

KT12345678 - I think you will be fine. I got accepted on Feb. 22nd and our GPA and test scores are practically the same. Plus you have good EC’s. I think you’ll get in. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks! I appreciate that, but it is not my scores and GPA that I am worried about, it’s my rigor. I feel as though it is far too low. :(
