Hi! I was wondering what my chances are of getting into UIC's GPPA medicine program.
My act score is a 34, my gpa is currently a 5.06/6. Honestly, many of my grades are Bs and I got a C in physics honors last year. All the classes in which i have gotten Bs in were honors or AP classes. Extracurricular wise, i am in the school's Muslim Student Association, Read to Lead (a tutoring club), NHS, and LHO ( volunteer club). I volunteer every sunday, for about three hours, at my local sunday school's preschool and i want to be a pediatrician in the future. I also have about 30 hours at the food pantry, but those hours were completed last year.
I know i'm probably a long shot.
Thanks!

There is an ongoing thread under Multiple Degree programs for UIC GPPA that you might want to look at and post there to get a little more traction with answers since the program is specific to Illinois only residents. My D is a newly admitted freshman in the program and based on the information we received I would advise you to apply! It is a 3 step process-apply to the college in general; apply to the Honor’s College in which you would go through an interview process and apply to GPPA simultaneoulsy. I do have to tell you that the program is highly competitive and the caliber of accepted students rivals ivy league stats. While your ACT is competitive, you gpa is on the low side…BUT…they will look at your entire story. The essays are incredibly important so I would concentrate on them…write, re-write, show them around to your support people… they really want to get to know the real you…not what you think they want to see, but the REAL you. Don’t be afraid to open up about your interests even if they have nothing to do with medicine or academics or the traditional things people do to get into med school. Everyone will tell you to be yourself…do it! Also…practice interviewing with your family or friends…get comfortable with talking about diverse subjects. Also…trust the system…if you don’t get into GPPA it doesn’t mean you aren’t med school material. The Honors College at UIC is very good and the school can prepare you well. The most important thing is to find a school with an environment that suites you so that you thrive! Good Luck!
