I am an IB candidate that receives mostly A’s and some B’s.
My unweighted GPA is a 3.7
SAT - 1820
I live in the state of NC
I had great essays along with great recommendations
For the past 4 years of high school I’ve been on the swim team and soccer team. Placed in region math competitions and gone to states for math and tons of other unique activities.
I would just like to know if I have a decent chance of getting into UNC. I know that living in state will help me.
OK I will but there is not much here to base an opinion on. Being in-state is an obvious advantage.
Your SAT Scores put you in about the 25-30th percentile of accepted students. 50th percentile is approximately 1940
Unweighted GPA is a bit low. A more comfortable level would be 3.8+ so it depends on the number of advanced classes (AP/IB) classes you have taken and how you performed in them - Weighted GPA needs to be at least in the 4.5 - 4.6 range.
Class rank seems to be pretty important. A very high percentage are in the top 10 of their graduating class (not 10%).
Academic rigor weighs heavily in the process. Also, does your school have a good track record of placing well prepared students at Carolina?
Painting a clear picture of what you have to offer UNC in your application helps with the process. Great essays and recommendations are also very important. Leadership in your ECs will show them potential also.
My daughter’s SAT scores were a bit lower than yours but her overall application was strong. GPA was 3.9+UW and 4.6W. She was accepted and has been very successful as a UNC student.
Hope this helps a bit and best of luck to you.
