(I've taken almost every AP offered at my school already)

You look to be in great shape except the ACT / SAT - do whatever you can to bring that way up.

OOS students need to outstanding in every area because of the limited number of spots available.

what was the last math class you took?

I’m taking AP Stats over the summer.

Any other tips?

Your stats and EC’s seem fine (ACT is a little low), about what you’d expect for a competitive out of state applicant, but you come across as annoyingly arrogant.

“I am the most dedicated member of the class of 2010 and a school legend”
“I write AMAZING essays”
“and an outstanding reputation in my school and in my community.”

I hope you toned it down in your essays.

While you certainly want to sell yourself, your abilities, and your accomplishments in your essays, you don’t want to do it in such a way that makes the reader gag.

A prospective alumnus? You do realize you have to be a student first…;)

I’m sorry if I came across as arrogant, but I’m not. Actually, I am very low key about everything and I never ask for anything. The reason I am so well know at my school is because of this: I do a lot for the school and never ask for recognition.

Oh yes Phony, my mistake. ;)

You’re very accomplished and I have no doubt you will do great things wherever you end up… it’s just the way you phrased it didn’t cast you in the best light.

When you write your essays, you definitely want to appear humble. You are trying to sell the university on the idea that not only are you a good fit, but you’ll be active in campus life and can thrive there. They have so many talented students, if someone comes across as entitled, it’s going to be a put off no matter how accomplished you are.

Make sure there’s coherence in the activities you pursue. If you have a good idea of what your intended major is, make sure you have at least 2 years of activities centered around that field.

I’m of the mind that being passionate about several things is better than having a whole myriad of activities that seem superficial, as if you want to be able to check more boxes on the application or have something else to add to a resume.

Honestly, I did this little profile very quickly and I just put down some facts. I am very humble both in writing and in person…but I was writing very quickly and I didn’t look over what I had written.

As for my ECs, I am very concentrated on Marketing and I have extensive volunteer service and work experience in the field of advertising.

Carolina loves minorities with your grades and class rank. I don’t think you’ll have an issue getting in even OOS. The 4.5 and top 5% says a lot. The only issue as others have already noted is your ACT. 27 is a little low. If you had 29 I’d say you’re a shoe in.

Hey hey…

I think your chances are great. UNC-Chapel Hill is a famous basketball school too! So if you love basketball, you’ll fit right in.

I talk to another person that went to school there, and she told me it was way easy for her to get accepted.

Also, if you don’t make it in the regular decision, you can enroll in the Summer School or Continuing Studies School (Bill and Ida Friday Center?).

If you do get accepted, UNC-CH is one of the best publicly subsidized educations you can get for the money.

OOS admission to UNC has always been highly competitive and this year was perhaps the most competitve ever for both in-state and OOS. I have been observing UNC admissions for six years and unlike what others have said, the one thing I can tell you with absolute certainty is that no one is a lock for OOS admissions.

I’ve seen many people with amazing GPAs, SATs and ECs turned down or wait listed. Just this year alone I probably received emails or PMs from at least a dozen HIGHLY qualified OOS students with top credentials who were wait listed asking for advice on how to get into UNC off the wait list.

Even with your URM status I would recommend doing all you can to get the ACT/SAT score up; for an OOS female they are on the low end of the scale. Make sure that you spend a lot of time on your essays because UNC places a great deal of importance on them. As others have said, tone down the bragging in your essays and personal statement; humility goes a long way especially with the UNC admissions staff.

Good luck.

With an ACT of 27, he has little to know chance. Lets be honest guys. OOS admission has less than 20% acceptance rate this year.

A test score this low is a red flag to the admissions department.

5% chance at best because you have OK EC’s.

Wow…I think you should ignore the last person.

I’d say you have a 35-40% chance due to your ACT score. To be completely honest, for OOS, you need like a 31-34 ACT. Try and get your boards up, because that’s the only thing lagging you from having a 60-65% chance. I’d say it’s a slight reach with your ACT score.

Though, UNC does have the Holistic approach, and with that you have a very good shot. Best of luck.

For UF, because I see you’re a resident of FL, I’d say you’re definitely in even with tha 27. And if you want to stay in FL, I’d say you could get a full merit scholarship a UMiami. But shoot for the moon, :).

I agree with Blair, just totally ignore DaSmallbrainedDog. Though you are OOS your very good weighted GPA and the fact that you are a minority may cause admissions to overlook the relatively low ACT score. I have seen people get into UNC Chapel Hill with a lower GPA, similar SAT/ACT, and lack of a minority background. I believe you have a good chance of getting in and good luck with the things you do later when you do get in. (when I say get in it may be a weight list entry, but I believe you will make it)
