Decent shot, what’s your UW GPA? If you are one of the top students in your class grade-wise, you’re set. Solid ACT for unc

Your stats aren’t bad at all! But knowing UNC, even with your stats, it’s sadly still kind of a reach (for OOS!). However, don’t be discouraged; still apply! I think you definitely have a shot.
As one of the posters said above, maybe taking the SATs will boost your chances; however, because its so late in the year already, that opportunity might be …
Good luck!

honestly, despite the fact that OOS students don’t have much luck getting into UNC, i think you’ll get it. your stats are very strong.

OOS is tough like everyone is saying, BUT I think your recs and ECs could put you over the top so slight reach. Good luck!!!

UNC-CH is allowed to accept up to 20% (I think it went up this year) of their enrolled class OOS. I think something around 1% of OOS students who apply will be accepted.

Many in-state students with weighed GPA’s of over 4.25 who were not accepted last year, and the average WGPA (for all students - including in-state) was about 4.5

About half of the students accepted into last years UNC-CH class were in the top 10 students in their high school class (yes top ten, not top 10%).

I wish UNC would break down their stats for in and out of state students so OOS students could have a realistic idea of their chances of being accepted.

I don’t know if you will be accepted or not but your stats don’t present the most likely scenario. Any school would be lucky to have you and I think you should apply anyhow because if you don’t you may always wonder… Good Luck.

medium reach

You have a great solid chance at getting in UNC. =) The only thing I would do now if I were you would be to make those essays excellent… and then it’s all up to luck and who reads your application

I think UNC is a match school for you. The only thing that may work against you is you are not a NC resident but who cares! Just like for my other chances, write some superb essays and receive good recommendations and you will be fine.

I know your HS pretty well, actually. (I’m from MoCo as well) The competition from our region is brutal, but i still say that UNC would only be a low reach.

I know a lot of people who are in the same boat as you.

I dont know your major but UNC is tough for OOS

Regardless, I believe you have a good shot of getting in.

Hopefully you mentioned somewhere your affiliation with North Carolina in your application. A friend of mine did this and he was accepted from New York (He had a 33 ACT composite).

i didnt realize it was so hard to get into oos. hmmm

id say the stuff other than the act should push you over the majority of applicants oos though right?

i think you can do it. and your other schools look pretty solid, vandy is a reach

fifty fifty

Which is harder tp get into as an oss? Univerisity of North Carolina Cahpel Hill or University of Virginia?

@cecivonh UVA accepts a greater percentage of OOS, but they also have higher academic requirements. It’s kind of a toss up depending on what your grades are like.

I would give you a 8/10 or 9/10 for getting into UNC. Your grades and scores are fine for the school and you have a ton of ECs which will help balance you out.

You have a good shot regardless of being OOS. Its a shame because In state youd be in. But anyways, Id say 60/40 in your favor

agree with ^. I think you should be okay for UNC. Make sure you convey that you want to be there and I think you’ll get in.

ur awards are stellar and score is good enough for UNC.
but ur EC’s may be a little too scattered? have a few that u really have passion to i guess.
other than that, i think u have a pretty good shot.
if u wanna make sure, i guess u can retake ACT to get higher score, but its too late now i gues…

Thanks for chancing me. . .you are in a great position. I can understand your concern as it is competitive for out of state applicants, but you are also in a very good position. You have good scores, good grades from difficult classes, and good ec’s. I bet you get in fairly easily

low Reach for OOS
match for IS

You are in the range but not a shoo in my any means

Chance back?
