On my SATs, I got a 630 in Math and a 570 in Critical Reading. I am in the top 5% of my class with a 4.22 GPA(weighted) and take all Honors, AP, and College in High School courses. I am also very involved in extracurricular activities; concert band, colorguard captain, youth group, girl scouts, the Musical, and various other activities.

I am a nervous wreck that I will not get in when I apply next fall. What are my chances of getting into the main campus of Pitt, and do you have any suggestions for me? Thanks!!

I would think you’ll get in, as long as you keep your grades and all up for at least the rest of this year and in your senior year. I had 590 reading and 610 math, the same composite score as you and got in this year.

Pitt Main doesn’t really encourage freshmen to go to the main campus, so the bar is set a bit higher. However, most of the students in my AP classes got in, and i know for a fact that a majority had GPA’s under a 4.0 and had virtually no EC’s.

So yeah, i do think you have a very good chance at getting in, but it is competitive. Pitt Johnstown is pretty nice (pretty secluded, though), but main is the nicest by far. Oakland is great and the Cathedral really stands out. It’s just a really nice campus in my opinion. If you don’t get in, you could always try and transfer! I know people who have done that as well. Best of luck!

What are you thinking of applying into? My guess is A&S since you didn’t mention otherwise. The high GPA is a really good balance to your lower SAT score (you’re barely sitting on that 1200 M+CR minimum). I would suggest applying early, undecided, with all the extras (2 LoRs, essay, resume of activities). You will probably get in early, applying later in the cycle may hurt your chances.

You are a little above the 25th so you should be in unless you are applying for a competitive major.
