What are my chances of getting into UPenn ED?

Hi everyone,
I plan on applying to Penn ED for the class of 2023. Here are some stats:
GPA: 3.9-4.0 (my school doesn’t calculate GPA on a 4.0 scale)
SAT: 1490 (780 math 710 RW)
ACT: 33 (34 Eng 34 Math 31 Read 33 Sci)
Intended College: Arts and Sciences
All classes honors, 4 AP classes, lots of good EC activites. Statistically, how do I look? I don’t want to get into specifics on my EC’s I just want to know if my grades and standardized tests are up to par.
Please give some feedback!

APs: AP Calc BC, AP Lit, APUSH, AP Physics C

@HSC2019 ACT & SAT are good but are a bit in the lower end of the admissible range,it might be worth retaking it if you can push it to 1510+/34+.

Assuming great but not abnormally outstanding ECs, I think you have ok chances for ED. There are gonna be many applicants with similar or better stats as you but you are definitely within the admissible range.

What level are your ECs at? Do you have notional or international distinctions? state/regional awards? anything else that pops up? or is it more like leadership positions in high school etc?

I have played piano in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Austria, Vienna. I have won national and international music competitions. I am in National Honor Society, Technology Student Association (Bronze Award), I have a mentorship with a science agency that works with the government. I have only taken the ACT and SAT once so I am going to take each again and prepare more this time, I am looking to get above a 1500 (so close!). I have attended Archery nationals three times, I am an archery instructor, and I have about 4 school leadership positions. I have started working on my Why Penn? essay and my common app essay. Thanks for the reply!

If you’re applying for some major that is tied into music, it may make up for your relatively low test scores (if not discussing this caliber of school, your scores would be nearly exceptional). Considering your extraordinary experiences with music, it may be enough to get you in. If you can get your test scores into the 1500+/34 range, you should have a good shot at getting in. If you are not pursuing a major that is related to music, as fantastic and commendable as your experiences are, their value will diminish exponentially. Based on your extra-circulars, I hope that you are applying as either a STEM or music major. Good luck!

Your stats are good for Penn ED. I recommend taking two SAT subject tests and scoring 700s+ on both, but if you submit the ACT score you have, you don’t need to submit any SAT subject test scores. Write great essays and you could get accepted

@BingBong284 I wanted to major in a physical science (biophysics, physics and astronomy), and have music as a minor. Do you think that intending to major in science would undermine my musical accomplishments?

@HSC2019 Ok then your ECs are quite stronger than the majority of applicants. That would give you very good chances for Penn ED, especially if you mange to get your SAT 20-30 points higher and you do well in subject tests.

Assuming that the agency where you are a mentee is tied into one of these fields than yes. Without seeing the full list of your extra-circulars and how they tie into physical sciences, it’s hard to say. If your mentorship and Technology Student Association are your only extra-circulars that are related to sciences, then you are probably slightly above average for those applying to the same major. Slightly above average is not the best position to be in when applying to a school that has 18.5% ED acceptance rate. That being said, your music talent may be so extraordinary that it can get you in. Not making music your major won’t necessarily undermine your accomplishments, but it may slightly deflate their value. If you were going solely for music, I would think that you’d be one of the most exceptional talents. Obviously, choose what you want to study, and if you want to get into the sciences then great, I just hope that you have extra-circulars that are somewhere close to where your musical accolades are. I still like your chances, it’s just hard to make a call for a school like Penn.

Your stats are fine. The strength of your ECs and your essays will probably be the deciding factors in your admission

My son gained admission to Penn’s college of arts and sciences with your exact ACT and SAT score. He took 12 AP classes, had a 3.9 GPA, held two officer positions, started a club fixing up homes for the disadvantaged and had over 1000 of volunteer hours. He also had a job for three years in high school. He toured all the schools in the northeast on his own and wrote excellent essays. He is from Florida. Your talent will be very beneficial to your application.

@pennmom2022 1000 volunteer hours? That’s insane. I think I applied with like 40 volunteer hours haha.
