I have just sent in my preliminary application to USNA and I’m waiting to be informed that I am either an official candidate or I am not academically qualified. I am a female, which I think might work in my favor. I am on the varsity lacrosse team. I played soccer from 1st to 9th grade and club soccer in 10th grade. I was in the marching band from 7th to 9th grade and was the leader of the drum line. I won several leadership awards for my service in the drum line. I was in National Junior Honor Society from 7th to 9th grade. I am currently in National Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, and National History Honor Society. I have taken AP Chemistry (B), AP Psychology (A, 4 on the AP exam), AP Government and Politics (A, haven’t taken the AP exam), AP United States History (B, haven’t taken the AP exam), AP World History (A, haven’t taken the AP exam), AP English 3 (B, 4 on the AP exam), Honors Physics (B), and Biology (A). I have also taken 3 years of Forensic Science (A in all 3 years) and took a forensic anthropology class at Appalachian State University over the summer. My unweighted GPA is a 3.88 and my weighted GPA is a 4.1. My ACT score is a 24 and my SAT score is an 1180 (I am retaking both). I am involved in a lot of volunteer work, some in my community and some outside of the United States (Haiti and Africa). I am CPR, AED, Emergency Oxygen, Basic Life Support, First Aid, CPRO (another form of CPR), Lifeguard, and Scuba certified (have been on over 30 logged dives and have been certified for 6 years). I work as a lifeguard at the YMCA. I am taking the EMT-B course at my local community college, along with several other courses next school year. Math has never been my strong suit, which is why ACT and SAT scores are consistently low. I plan on majoring in Political Science with a minor in History. I know asking strangers on the internet is probably not reliable, but I would love to know what some of you think. Thanks!
You need to concentrating on getting your ACT/SAT up. You have to study and take one or the other of these tests oer again. I would concentrate on the test you did better on. Khan Academy on line has free SAT prep.
Look at the SAT/ACT ranges in this recent class profile. The students who have less than the 25% tile are probably athletes or have some other “hook”.

Thank you for your advice. I just got my official candidacy letter for the Class of 2023 today! I couldn’t be more excited! This is only the first step, but I’m glad I made it this far!
