Hello, I’m a current Junior in High School and a resident of Texas. UT-Austin is my dream school and is exactly where I want to go, but I’m on the fence if I’m going to be able to get in or not.
Keep in mind I’m applying for a biology major
So, my current unweighted GPA is about a a 3.77, and my weighted is a 4.8. My school is very competitive so I’m not within the top 6% and I’m actually still a few ranks away from being even top 10%. This worries me a lot since I know UT takes mostly the top 6. I also think my SAT will be around a 1300. And I’ve taken 2 AP classes thus far and passed both exams, and I’m currently in 3 right now. I’ve also taken various pre AP classes as well.
Some extracurriculars and achievements:
-I was the second-ever incoming sophomore to be accepted in student council at my school, and the first-ever incoming sophomore student ambassador.
-near the ending of somphomore year a new school was built and my neighborhood got rezoned for it, which means I’d be starting there the fall semester of my junior year. I saw safety issues with the zoning change so I spoke at a school board meeting in front of several hundred people and discussed potential issues which would arise with the rezoning, with a realtor to back it up, and a petition of around 300 people. (They ended up building a sidewalk to solve the issue)
-the ending of sophomore year I was chosen by staff to become the first Student Body President at my new school where I eventually would go on to create many committe projects and assist in starting up the school my junior year
-junior year I also joined DECA and NAHS
-I’m also currently one of three candidates at my school for Texas Boys State, which is a highly reputable program put on by the American Legion. It’s actually held at UT and apparently helps with admissions(I’ll find out in a couple months if I made it, but I know just being a candidate looks good on resumes).
So far this is all I can think of for my monumental things I’ve done during high school. I know UT is very big on diversity, and I am white, although I am Gay and struggled a lot during sophomore and junior year with coming to terms with my sexuality, but always strove to persevere with my leadership and classes. This is one of the reasons UT is a top choice: I feel like I’d be the most comfortable there in comparison to other Texas public schools. I don’t think my sexuality should give me any special privileges but I do know this tends to help with UT admissions. I know this is such a long post but if you’ve made it this far, thank you, and please let me know what you think my chances of getting in UT Austin would be?
