What are my chances of getting into UT Computer Science

I am a female in her senior year of high school trying to apply for UT Austin’s CS major and I have heard a multitude of horror stories as to how difficult it is to get into the program and I just wanted to see if I had a chance of evening getting in. I heard that females have an easier time getting into CS but I still am not certain on that.

GPA: 3.97/4.0 and 4.46/5.0, Class Rank: 4/654 (top 10% of my class)

My SAT and ACT scores are not very good and that worries me a lot. My SAT score is 1340 composite (640 reading and 700 math) and my ACT score is a 29. My essay is decent and I had it looked over by a professional.

Extracurriculars:
-I am the president of the girls who code club at our school, specifically designed for girls who are interested in the STEM program
-Qualified for the National Girls Go Cyberstart Competition of 2019
-Academic Decathlon Second Place in Essay Writing on Honors Team
-I got my Microsoft Office Specialist Certificate in 2017
-Girls Go Cyberstart 9th place team in the state of Texas among 568 teams, and 92nd in the nation among over 3000 teams in 2018 (a cybersecurity competition)
-AP Scholar; I passed both the AP Computer Science A and AP Computer Science principles test as well as the Calculus AB test and other tests
-Distinguished English and Language Scholar program (DELAS) (a 3 year long project dedicated to writing essays about certain books and developing an action plan dealing with your major and in my case computer science and carrying that plan out in my senior year)
-I am the computer science teacher’s assistant
-I am the Vice President of Business Professionals of America (another club)
-I am a part of the school’s yearbook team
-I am in NHS
-I am also a writing tutor at my school
-I have over a 100 volunteer hours.

Don’t worry about being harsh! I just really want to know if I have even a slight chance of being accepted.

I forgot to add I am an in-state student too

You have a chance, most CS admits are a part of the auto admission group. Focus your energy on your essay and short answers.

Thank you I will!

UT is never a guarantee with computer science, but your chances are good. Do the best you can and keep some back-up schools handy. You’re in the auto-admit category for Texas A&M, which means your chances of getting into CS is much higher over there.

This is all assuming you’re in-state. If you’re a non-Texas resident, all of this great advice goes out the window

@coolguy40 Thank you! I am in state!

If you are in the top 6% (which you would be if you are number 4), then you are auto admit to the university. You will just have to wait for the major.

Important for Texas residents to note that they are in top 6% of their class as top 10% is not relevant with respect to UT-Austin admissions. (Actually you are in the top one (1%) percent of your class.)

Obviously, there is concern about your standardized test scores. Your ECs are a plus, however.

Have you checked the UT-Austin website for CS major applicants for admission standards ?

@Publisher I have not do you know where I could find it?

@Boogie818 I am thank you, do you know when UT Austin usually tells you when you’ve been accepted into your major?

If you are in the top 6% (which you would be if you are number 4), then you are auto admit to the university. You will just have to wait for the major.

@Boogie818 do you know usually how long it usually takes for them to decide on the major aspect of my admission?
