Hi, so I've been wanting to go to the University of Washington for a long time now and I want to know if I stand a chance to getting accepted.

I grew up in China until I was 14 years old and then moved to Seattle for High School. Went to English speaking school in China but still proved to be arduous. Mom is Chinese, Dad is America. Dad went to University of Washington but never graduated. Mom graduated University in China. I really want to get into this school because it has been my first choice since freshmen year of high school! :D

I submitted my application in late October.
My SAT score: Critical Reading: 540 Writing: 570 Math: 650 Total: 1760
Cumulative Gpa: 3.50 (Gpa Unweighted)
AP courses: UW Pre-Calculus, UW Calculus, UW college writing 131, UW spanish 4
Volunteer: 50 hours at daycare, 50 hours tutoring at libraries.

In my Essay: I talked about my hardship in receiving a good english education in China. I can post my essay on here if it will help reveal my chances of getting into UW.

-Played for school band for all 4 years.
-Cross Country for 2 years
-School praise band for all 4 years

Replies are greatly appreciated!

Your GPA and SAT are not the most competitive.
The average first year student that I’ve seen getting in (from personal experience) had AT LEAST a 3.6 GPA and an SAT of 1800-1900+.
Saying this, UW looks at your application holistically, meaning that they look at other factors besides numbers.
From personal experience, your personal statement can make it or break it for you.
I was rejected as a freshman with decent numbers on my application, but had a poor personal statement.
I attended a CC for about a year and then applied to UW Seattle with a 3.3 GPA and a well written personal statement.
I was recently accepted to UW Seattle Winter 2015.
Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback!

^ UW is not THAT competitive, haha. I agree that bumping up your SAT score would help (your CR and W scores are a little low), but I have several friends who were accepted with stats near yours. Keep in mind that while the average accepted GPA for UW students is a 3.7, a lot of people don’t take advanced classes, so if you did then the admissions officers will take that into account.

I would definitely craft a good personal statement. Don’t post your essay on here, though, as people may take it and use it as their own. If you want someone to proofread it, you should PM them so that it can’t be publicly viewed. I think you’ll be fine, honestly.

Best of luck!

Thank you for your reply!
