I visited Wesleyan University and I would LOVE to go there, but I want to see if applying was practical since I know they are a highly competitive school.
Note: I plan on not turning in my SAT or ACT scores. I do, however, plan on interviewing and possibly applying early decision.
- GPA: 4.21 (I'm expecting this to go up because...)
- 3 APs as off Junior year with all As (and I'm supposed to be taking 4 next year)(there are about 9-12 APs offered at my school depending on the year)
- Was in all regular classes freshmen year but was moved up to all honors sophomore year (except elective and science but I ended it with a 97 average) and an AP, and was in all honors and AP classes my junior year except for Psychology, which was my elective (98 average).
- Have been on high honors list every semester and year
- Go to a college preparatory boarding school in rural Georgia
- Have participated in musicals (was recognized as assistant vocal director Junior year) and choruses since I was in 4th grade, I play 5ish instruments (piano, guitar, ukulele, mandolin, and kinda flute)
- Participate heavily in writing club, model UN, and our environmental stewardship club which I help raise funds for and run social media for (with my friend)
- Have done cross country and cirque for athletics
I’m still in the summer of my junior year, so if there is something I can do before/during senior year to improve my chances, that would be great to know. Thank you!
PS- Don’t be afraid to be real with me. I want to know what my chances are, whether they’re good or bad.
Its hard for me to tell if your coursework is near the hardest available (AP wise) at your school so I can’t comment on its strength. Are you not submitting test scores because you feel they are weak? I would encourage you to retake until you get a score you want unless you’re one of those people that just doesn’t do well on standardized tests. Otherwise, your GPA is good, and your ECs are fairly good as well. I would say that you have a decent shot at Wesleyan as long as you can build your app around a theme and sell the adcom a good story of who you are with your essays. Hope I helped and if its not too much trouble, could you chance me as well?? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/2006308-chance-me-possibly-for-ivies-and-similar-such-schools.html#latest
Applying ED and doing the interview would obviously increase your chances of getting in.
Your GPA seems to be good and your activities, while wouldn’t act as a hook, is (I think) about average.
If I were you, I would focus on two things:
- focusing & building up on your current activities -> make your HOOK!
- TAKING THE TEST TO GET IN RAGNE with Wesleyan’s SAT/ACT score. -> while it is true that Wesleyan is test optional, with tons of other applicants with similar stats like yours, it would be hard to differentiate yourself with others (the Class of 2021 acceptance rate was about 15%!!). I think it would be best if you can get an ACT score between 32-34 and 2~3 SAT2 tests with scores 750+.
oops just read that you are currently in junior year summer break.
Try your best in getting your scores in range! good luck
