What are my chances of getting rescinded?

I got into many colleges this year and was wondering if a decline in my grades would concern the college I'm attending. I got accepted into many schools with a 2.8 unweighted GPA and I'm mostly a B/C student so I'm a little worried that if my grades go down to lets say straight C's, that I will get rescinded? Is this true cause right now I may be on the brink of getting in deep trouble? Someone told me that colleges don't rescind as long as you don't get any D's or F's, which I haven't so far.

I guess it would depend on the minimum requirements for the particular college. They may have a minimum that you need to be above. Check the websites in the first instance. If you’re really concerned, speak to admissions.

Otherwise, decide to have a really focused last period before college. Don’t do the senioritis thing. Also, do some keep fit or sport if you don’t already. Healthy body, healthy mind etc. College will be far harder due to the amount of self study expected to get good grades. Get the habit now, it’ll really be worth it in the long run.

You’ve already been accepted to many colleges this year? Most schools won’t mail those out until March. And yes, dropping from a 2.8 to a 2.0 COULD be reason to rescind your acceptance. Acceptances come with the proviso of continuing with grades consistent with those you had in your application. I suggest you plan to keep up with your work.

Rolling admission schools are all sending admit letters and have been for a few weeks now.

Yeah I applied to alot of schools with rolling admissions and got in! And what should I email the admissions office if I’m worried that I might get rescinded?

Why would you want to draw attention to yourself like that? If it’s a problem, they’ll find out soon enough. If it’s not a problem, why stir up trouble?

It will be your grades that are reported on your final transcript that will be of concern. Anything else, like midterm grades, is meaningless. Concentrate on getting your grades up so it’s not a question.

Slacking off in senior year = bad idea.

Everyone slacks off senior year though!

Not if they don’t want to be rescinded. And no, not everyone slacks odd senior year.

Anyone else want to share their thoughts on this or from experiences?

Just checked my grades and now I’m in deep trouble! I have 1 A, 1 B, 2 C’s, 1 D, and 1 F!

Well, you’re ahead of the game. Most years, the “will I get rescinded” questions don’t start until May or June. The good news? You’ve got time to turn things around now, unlike the people who didn’t start slacking until spring…

Can confirm, did not slack off senior year.

That is nothing new.

Yeah but should I email them now about the situation or wait until it starts getting better?

No, not everyone does this. There are a LOT of students all over the academic spectrum that have been working hard for years and have no intentions of letting their academic records, and college choices, go in the toilet just so they can slack off.

Also, each and every school requires a mid-term transcript. Each school has a different way of reporting mid-term grades. You need to check with your GC to see if only the semester grade appears, in which case you have a chance to redeem yourself with second quarter grades averaged with these first quarter grades. However, many schools transcripts any time midyear, including midterms, show each quarter individually until you have a year end grade. In other words, these first quarter grades may indeed be going to the schools that have accepted you and they will absolutely raise a big red flag. So, find out how they will be reported, what the colleges will see.

In the meantime you need a serious attitude adjustment. If you want to be heading off to college with your peers next August you need to commit to working through exams. Slacking off is for summer break. There will be absolutely no time in college where you can ‘slack off’ so developing good study habits now while your work load is relatively easy is the best favor you could do for yourself.

Update on my grades at this point: 1 A, 1 B, and 4 C’s. Do I still have to worry about my grades?

bump anyone!

That’s a 2.5, you’ll be fine. Try not to fall below that, and try to bump up maybe one more just to be safe, but no school that admitted you with a 2.8 will rescind you for a 2.5.

As long as you stay above 2.5 you’ll be okay, but to be on the safe side try to bring one of those C’s to a B.
