I am in Spanish NHS, regular NHS, a freshman mentor, and I volunteer in hospitals. I have 10 years of dance experience. I want to apply to UC Santa Barbara, UCLA, and UC San Diego.
The UCs are extremely stingy with scholarships and financial aid. You should basically expect to pay the full price tag if you’re heart is set on a UC school.
If you’re looking for a scholarship, you’ll probably have to look elsewhere.
Unfortunately, the UC’s provide very few academic scholarships. Each campus awards Regents scholarships and the amounts and terms are different for each campus, but those go to students with very high stats. Each campus also offers a variety of other small scholarships but they are hard to get. Are you a Calif. resident? If so, depending on your financial situation, you might be eligible for a Cal Grant- these are essentially need based grants given to students through a Federal/State program that you do not need to pay back. Your counselor should be able to help you fill out the form if it is not automatically done at your school. The campuses you have listed have become extremely competitive for admissions the last few years. You should take a look at the threads on this site regarding admissions for these schools. Your test score is on the low side for admission to these schools. Your GPA is low for admission to UCSD or UCLA too. I’m not saying it won’t happen but many students with higher stats than yours have been turned away the last couple of years. Just be sure that you add some safety schools to your list when you apply-school to which you are sure to be admitted. You would be a great candidate for most of the Cal State schools as well as some of the lower tier UC’s. If you are not sure what those are talk to your GC. Good luck!
I agree with the above posts. If you want to look for merit aid, start here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/1678964-links-to-popular-threads-on-scholarships-and-lower-cost-colleges.html
