Hi, due to my low gpa which I will bring up I wanted to know my chances of transferring to NC State or UNC Chapel Hill. I I am currently a sophomore at Appalachian State with around 30 credits completed.
Current: Appalachian State
HS GPA: 2.8(3.6 weighted) low gpa due to transferring schools
Current GPA: 2.76(will bring it up to around a 3.2 by the end of this semester)
ACT: 34
involved in some clubs
Great essays and letters of recommendation from current professors
Apply to both but don’t be surprised if you don’t get into Carolina. Average transfer GPA for UNC is a 3.7 and NCSU Engineering is a 3.5. Your ACT also won’t matter as a junior transfer so even though it’s outstanding you are probably boned in that regard.
Although since you’re in state you probably have a better chance, try to get some great essays. Knock them out of the park and pray to the god of your choosing.
Btw I am a first semester freshman at an NC CC so I feel your pain when transferring.
I’m applying to the general college of arts and sciences at unc and whichever is the easiest program to get into at nc state. and they still require my test scores since I don’t have enough credits yet.
If you want to apply to the schools considered easier at NCSU, which of course is subjective, make sure your current classes and interests reflect that. If you apply to, say, natural resources because you think it’s easier but all your previous classes, clubs and extracurriculars have been in literature, they will be suspicious about why you’re applying to that program. Average transfer GPA at NCSU is 3.29, not out of the realm of possibility since you say you’ll be above 3.0 soon. And if QOCBd1 is right (and probably is) that engineering has an average GPA of 3.5 for transfers, then that means those students are bringing up the total (which suggests that many students with GPAs below 3.29 are accepted). That high ACT will help as well. Also, visit NCSU and express interest. Good luck!
