All Pre req's will be done by Fall 2012 for ucla, for uci spring 2013

what are my chances if these are my stats? i may have left out some things as well.

here’s an easier version of my extracurricular/awards

Fall 2010: ucla’s CCCP (classic site), Honors Program, tutoring job, AGS(honors society).
Spring 2011: ucla’s CCCP, honors program, tutoring job, EOP&S, el camino dreamers club.

Summer 2012: CCCP (site plus or site lite), honors program, volunteer at high school.

the rest is still to be determined, but it some things are a trend.

The average GPA for admitted UCLA English majors was 3.74 last year, Comparative Literature admits averaged 3.58. English may be tough to get into because it’s an impacted major but I think you have a chance at Comparative Lit. depending on your personal statements and TAP boosts your chances as well. Did you sign a TAG with any school?

I’d say you are competitive. TAP will put you right in the mix with the other applicants with higher gpas. I agree with andrewexd’s post.

You’re on track with ecs, just haven’t been there too long, except for cccp. But its relative depending on the load of your work. Keep up the good work, only thing left is have a killer essay prompt. Start as early as possible and have your english teachers, friends, etc. read over it.

Also, TAG UCI.

Former elco student here so rooting for you to get into UCLA/UCI! good luck!

@andrewexd Thanks for the honesty. I know my gpa is not that great since I’m mostly a B student. I really hope I can write an amazing personal statement though. I’m working on them already. Also, another question. Will my grades from the Fall that I apply to UC’s count into the overall gpa that the universities will see? Like if I boost my gpa up during that Fall, will they calculate that into their decisions?

As for TAG, I’m definitely doing UCI. Thank you!! :)

@MeStudyStuff Thank you. I hope that my extra efforts are enough to help me out. I know it’s competitive and because of my gpa, I’m definitely doing TAG for UCI. Thanks for the support!
It’s great to hear advice former elco students. :)

I’m also attending Elco right now and applying in the fall. Your winter grades will be included as well btw. good luck!

Also, getting your math requirements finished by the fall/winter is important. The transfer counselor at elco is actually very knowledgeable, his last name is Lozano i think. You should definitely make an appointment with him, he’ll make a list of everything you need to get done.

@ LAforlife thank you! that means i can still raise my gpa a bit :)

@ andrewexd Thanks and much luck to you as well! I’m definitely in contact with Mr. Lozano and I’ve already met with him to make my educational plan–it’s practically set. I also finished my transferable math and english since last Fall. I only need 5 more classes to take. I’m taking longer than anticipated lol :P

@silvertongues I’ve already taken two semesters of foreign language. I plan on taking another two semesters to fulfill requirements for UCI. For UCLA, I only need 2 more classes to fulfill my pre reqs. I will be taking those in the fall.

How are you involved with so many honors societies with such a low GPA? And it’s not good that you anticipate your GPA to be dropping. I’d recommend taking on a heavy load this summer and fall to bring it back up. Grade trend is important.

@Shannon13 the honors program requires a minimum of a 3.1. As for my anticipation, I’m earning all B’s and that’s why my gpa is slightly dropping. I’m definitely going to try to raise it by the end of this Fall though. thank you!!

You have a pretty good chance for UCI! but for UCLA (since English is impacted, I believe) try to raise your GPA as high as you can. Other than that, you have very strong achievements/extracurricular involvements/work experience. I was also involved with Circle K as an officer and it really, really helped! Contact me if you have any questions! I was recently admitted to a university from a CC as well. BEst of luck! GL!!
