What are my chances on getting into UF?

I'm planning on applying to UF for economics in the fall of 2014. I recently took the SAT and got a 1650. I understand it's not fantastic but it's also not terrible. I have an unweighted GPA of 3.6 and a weighted GPA of 4.3. I passed every AP exam I have taken so far and I am deeply involved in the school band and community band (jazz band, wind ensemble, and marching band) and planning on marching at UF if I get accepted. I have several awards in and out of band as well as very highly respected teachers willing to write me letters of recommendation (former director of bands at FIU and former assistant dean of the political science department at Texas A&M). I am the son of someone who used to work at UF. I don't know if they take that into account. I was also employed at the local middle school to assist the band director. I'm a naturally good writer, straight A's in AP lang and whatnot so I'm not concerned about the essay. So what are my chances of getting into UF?

Your ECs sound really good since you’re really passionate about band. However, your SAT scores are well below the 25th percentile for UF, so you probably need to improve them by a few hundred points or do better on the ACT to have a good chance. UF does not look at Letters of Recommendation or AP scores when you apply, so do not depend on those. It might take in account that you’re the son of someone who worked there since it does take legacies(children of alumni) into account. How many AP classes/college level classes have you taken? What is your class rank? UF really cares about rank and AP/college level classes.

UF: Aim for 1900+/28+

Otherwise, find a test-optional college…

Seriously you need to brush up. if you can get 150 more points total you will have a much better chance.
