I’m currently in community college in Orange County my current GPA is a 2.45GPA I do have a few more classes I need to take like bio, college math along with few minor math classes, oral communication, and critical thinking. I understand that they take local students first. I’m a graphic design major and a English major wanted to know my chances of getting accepted since I’m not local.
SDSU gives local applicants priority and if not local, they are usually looking for a high/competitive GPA. A 2.45 GPA as of now would make SDSU a tough admit. I would say you need a minimum 3.0+ for a decent chance at SDSU as a Transfer. Remember, the minimum GPA’s listed on the website are just that, the minimum GPA they would even consider but that GPA will not get you in.
Take a look at this year’s applicant stats to get an idea:
I agree with Gumbymom. I am a newly admitted transfer so here are a couple of tips I learned:
•Navigate the SDSU admissions website for transfers.
•Complete your golden 4 courses to include English comp, a college level math, speech, and critical thinking.
•Complete ALL your major prep classes. Refer to assist.org.
•Get your gpa up to at least a 3.0 (3.8 would be ideal) being that you’re not local frankly you’re not going to be a very competitive applicant with your current gpa. Most non locals have extrmely high gpa’s.
•Apply to multiple CSU’s.
I wish you the best of luck! Go Aztecs!
i agree, your GPA is going to make that a tough admit. be sure to also apply to your ‘local’ CSU so you have options.
good luck.
UPDATE
I’ve have taken a class during Summer semester, and my GPA now stands at a 2.80 my goal is to get it to 3.20 GPA, as I have quite to few classes left to take. I’m taking classes and getting A’s in them. If I do manage to pull it off despite my past grades do you think they will take a GPA upward trend into consideration?
Congratulations on doing well and increasing your GPA. All you can do is continue your upward GPA grade trend, apply and hope for the best. I have seen plenty of local applicants with outstanding GPA’s not get in, so no one can say for sure what kind of chances you will have. Everything hinges on how you compare to the other transfer applicants in your major.

I also should have mentioned, that I went to another Community College before the one that I’m currently at, and did horribly there so I transfer to another one that was closed to me. I do have a learning disability(I have ADD) and no one really taught me to study properly. So I had to figure out that my self just now learning how to get straight A’s. I do have other schools in mind like:
University of San Diego
Cal state Fullerton(local)
San Jose state University
Since you are local to CSU Fullerton, I believe the transfer GPA cutoff for locals this year was around a 2.8 but I do not have confirmation as of yet. Always strive for higher, but if you get your 3.2, then you CSUF is well within reach.
