What are my chances? (Original, I know.)

I plan to volunteer at the Mental Health Center and Hospital, there's quite a waiting list (1+ year)

Thanks so much for the feedback!

Add some MORE health-related ECs and you'll have a great shot at Brown PLME and NW HPME.

However, admissions for those programs are still crapshoots...

Thanks! I'm going to shadow a few docs and try to work at a cardiology clinic. Any other suggestions?

Jon, some others to possibly look at are WUSL, Penn, Cornell and Duke. Best of luck!

Nice focuses on athletics and stuff, good stats, you probably stand a good chance.

And why bother retaking SAT's when your ACT is good enough?

I'm mostly just paranoid that a low SAT score will keep me out even though colleges say they only take the top score. As well as I think my SAT II's are high enough that I don't need to retake them, so I may as well retake something since I have the time. But we'll see come October with six essays to write.

anyone else?
thanks to everyone who already responded!

I don't think you should retake the SAT because it'll just bring attention to your first score and if you don't do much better, it might undermine your ACT score, which is very good. By only taking it once and keeping your ACT score, colleges are much more likely to think that you had a bad day.

You didnt' give your AP scores, but I'm not really sure how much they matter anyways. Brown PLME and Northwestern HPME are very very competitive/selective and thus for their applicants, they really want to see that you are dedicated to the medical field. Write your essays so they reflect that. I think most likely your essays and possible interview(? not sure if that's required or even possible) will make or break your chances.

Good Job at your dedication through high school, and I wish you the best of luck.

just try to do a few more med related stuff (like you said you may try to shadow some doctors...that'd be a good thing to put on an app) and don't mess up on the essays and I think you have a very good chance for hpme and plme (maybe even more for hpme because your dad attended NU)

good luck!

Thanks guys! I'm shadowing an oncologist, and volunteering at the leukemia/lymphoma society for the Light the Night fundraiser. In my essay, I'm going to talk about how my dad being a doctor has really influenced me, especially for NU, and about how at Brown I'll be able to follow my other passions while pursuing a fantastic medical education. Think that's a good angle?
