My essays for Umich emphasize my passion for the environment and I like my essays but I'm really worried about my chances because of my SAT score and my limited amount of volunteer work. What do you guys think my chances of getting into Umich are?

u-m won't be counting the writing section. your sat score is way above their average so i don't see why you're worried. you'll get in.

Wow, i really did not know that they didn't count the writing section. Thanks for the info!

GPA is a low for an OOS applicant. High class rank and test scores could make up for that. Do you have a strong curriculum? If you have that GPA with only 1-2 AP classes, it could be considered a slight reach being OOS.

I've taken the most demanding course in high school. 7 APs by the time I graduate, but you are correct, my GPA is not very high.

It depends. Your actual Umich GPA could be higher than your school's.

Take all your sophomore/junior core academic classes and add them up and divide. A-/A/A+ = 4 and B-/B/B+ = 3.

My unweighted GPA in school is really low because I messed up freshman year. However if you recalculate mine using Umich's method, I get a smooth 3.8

yea, when i do it that way, the UW GPA is 3.8
