What are my chances? (please don't move this)

I posted this in the chances board already, but I want to hear from people who know a lot about NYU/go there already. Thanks a lot in advance to anyone who replies - I want to go here really badly and appreciate responses :)

Stats:
Personal:
I'm a white immigrant from the UK and my parents have only made it through 2-year colleges. I have no siblings that went to any of these schools.
I live in CA and go to private school.

Academic:
My weighted GPA is currently a 3.75 and unweighted is around 3.6, though my GPA for the last year and a half has been a 4.1 (it was a 3.2 freshman year and has increased substantially every year after that).
I got a 2170 on my SAT and was named a national merit commended student. I got a 780 on the Literature SATII and a 640 on the Spanish one.

Classes:
I've taken English 1H, 2H, 3AP and 4AP; Algebra 1H, Geometry H; Spanish 3H and 4AP; World History H and AP US Government; and AP Psychology. I've only taken the English 3AP test, which I got a 4 on. In addition to my four years of Spanish, I've also taken 2 years of French, and I've had a full schedule every year except for my 8th semester (most students take 2 free periods).

ECs:
I'm an editor on the newspaper, the president of the drug and alcohol awareness club, a CSF board member (which is a tutoring/TAing club), and I'm a member of my school's foreign language honors society. I've played piano since 3rd grade, and have been teaching myself Portuguese since last year. (I'm also a board member of the Harry Potter Club but I'm not sure if that's a pro :P)

Service:
I tutor every semester and try to get around 10 hours of service in each semester as well. Last year I went on a trip to El Salvador where I worked to keep poor kids off the streets, and this summer I'm going to Ecuador to teach English. I also work every October on a charity founded by my mom, where we raise money for breast cancer awareness and to pay for scans for people who can't afford them.

Recs:
I got one from my English 3AP teacher, who I got along with really well and I did well in his class too. He is very thorough in describing people (I asked him to describe me for a homework assignment once and his answers were 3x as long as my best friends'). My second rec is from my Spanish 4AP teacher, who told me she knew I was the best student in the class before she had ever taught me (she would sit in on my Spanish 3H class).

Other:
I think my essay was really good and at least a little unique. I wrote about how I've grown up with music being my biggest influence, and I talked about how music has shaped me into the person I am today, as well as about how I plan on using what I've learned to fight for better conditions in parts of North Africa.
My school doesn't release class rank.

It usually depends on which school you’re applying to, but in your case, you have a solid resume. Are you RD?

Yeah, I applied RD as an international relations major.

Uhhhhhhhh.

IR isn’t a regular major here. It’s an HONORS major within the POLITICS major. They’ll probably place you in Politics instead.

[NYU > Politics > International Relations Undergraduate Program](<a href=“Wilf Family Department of Politics”>Wilf Family Department of Politics)

I know- IR was listed under the “intended major” section of the app, so I checked that, but later emailed them about it when I realized it wasn’t a normal major.

bump - just got rejected from UCLA and was wondering if that’s a sign I won’t get in here. chance away please!

I can’t believe that you got rejected from UCLA… you’re a solid student.

I like your chances here, but I’m no expert.

brickbybrick: I was denied admission at UCLA too, but I was accepted into NYU. I’d say keep your hopes up! Best of luck!
