What are my chances??please help.

i am currently a junior in a somewhat competetive
public high school in southern california.
My freshman year i got a 2.3 GPA average (UW)
I was so lost and did not give effort.

But my sophmore year i did much better
I got a 3.5 GPA (UW).
with only 2 honors classes. (english & history)
i had incredible ECs.

My junior year i got a 3.4 (UW) on the first simester.
I am finishing up my 2nd simester, with currently 3.6 GPA(UW).
2 AP classes in total.

I was in Varsity golf for 2 years.
Im really good and im hoping colleges would
balance that out with my acedemics.
i have recently been noticed by cal state but i never
want to go to a school like that.

I was wondering what colleges i would be able to get into
if i were to get a 3.9 GPA senior year, with 2 AP classes.
And get 2100 on my SATs.
And if this is still not enough what would be a safe path for me?
I was hoping to be in range of UCLA/arizona/USC/GeorgiaTech/UCB.

Please give info on reach, match, safety schools.

I would apreciate any help you can give me.
All answers will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Well you truly are the epitome of the mounting success story. The problem is that grades ALONE are not good enough to get you in. Moreover, if you could throw in more AP courses to further enhance your 'success story' that would be nice. I don't know much about the schools you listed so I won't be of much help. I can however give yous stats:

UCLA accepts 24% of its applicants, so it ranks up with Brown and friends. Average GPA of applicants is 4.13, although your projected SAT scores would be above most applicants.

USC, however accepts 30% of its applicants. Average HS GPA: 3.99. Again, your projected SAT scores would be above most.

Georgia Tech accepts 43% of its applicants, your SAT scores would be great, and their average HS GPA is 3.72. You could probably get in here.

Arizona State University (if that's what you mean by Arizona). Accepts 41% of its applicants, and their average HS GPA is 3.36, and your SAT scores would be about 100 above their average applicant.

UCB - SAT scores in upper half, HS GPA: 3.94. They like in state applicants though. Berkeley has the most selective admission process of all UC campuses.

Ultimately, your selling point will be your essay. If you can demonstrate that you learned through high school how to take advantage of resources available. If I were you, I wouldn't be EXTREMELY worried about your GPA problems - you did what colleges want you to do if you start out low => improve, and you did a lot of improvement. I have a friend who graduated a few years ago with a pretty low GPA (above 3.3, but other than that I don't know), and he is attending George Washington University after spending two years at Emory's Oxford College. He did have good ecs like participation in debate and had very solid SAT scores 2200+. I

can't define the reach, match and safeties because I don't know those colleges very well. Remember, you are a california kid, and california schools like kids from.. (you guessed it) California.

I hope that helped!

And yes, I'm very aware of my bad grammar. It is almost 2am, what can I say? And no, I have not been on this site since I got home - I have some music deadlines and a spanish test tomorrow.

Thanks for your info on the colleges.
i too am working on a spanish and english project
so im pulling an all nighter.
thanks again.. :)

UCB/UCLA: Slight Reach

Just to note, UC's do not count your Freshman year GPA, so no need to fret over that. Still, you can use it to your advantage to incoporate it into your higher grade trend story. Also, the UC's do not have a mid year grade report for Senior year, meaning that they will not see your senior GPA until you matriculate and send in your final grade report. I would look into other UC's as options, like UCR, UCSC, UCSD, UCI, and UCD. Based on your predicted SAT score, I say you have a fair shot at all of those schools...just remember to take your required SAT II's. Good luck!
