The schools I would like to apply to are:
Purdue
UNC Greensboro
C.W. Post
Georgia Tech
Florida State University (ED)
William and Mary
American University
Tulane (ED)
Indiana
Virginia Tech
Alabama
UNF
Villanova
Maryland

Please help! Thanks so much!

Your GPA may be lower than you’d like but because of it’s trend it won’t hurt you too much. Your Ec’s are definitely a strong point. Also you can’t apply ED to 2 different schools. Good Luck!

Purdue - Match
UNC Greensboro - Match
C.W. Post - Match
Georgia Tech - Low Reach (Definitely Attainable)
Florida State University (ED) - Match
William and Mary - Reach
American University - Low Reach
Tulane (ED) - Reach
Indiana - Low Reach
Virginia Tech - Match
Alabama - Match
UNF - Match
Villanova - Reach
Maryland - Reach

Your GPA may be lower than you’d like but because of it’s trend it won’t hurt you too much. It also depends on the courses you’ve taken. Assuming you’ve taken a medium to hard schedule with some honors and a few AP’s (if your school offers them) my predictions are below. Your Ec’s are definitely a strong point. Also you can’t apply ED to 2 different schools. Good Luck!

thanks so much! how do you feel about University of Georgia? The trend is improving as the work load increases. I took my first AP last year and received and A. I will be taking two more this semester.

hmm it seems you and I are in the same boat as far as GPA is concerned, with a spot of laziness freshie and sophie year but a general upward trend. I looked up the schools on eduers so I could chance you a little bit better.

Purdue- based only off of GPA and EC’s- match/ low reach
UNC Greensboro- matcg
C.W. Post- no idea, sorry
Georgia Tech- high reach
Florida State University (ED)- match
William and Mary- lower reach
American University- lower reach
Tulane (ED)- no sorry. its a numbers game here I guess.
Indiana- I wanna say match, but if in bloomington, then reach
Virginia Tech- match/ low reach
Alabama- match
UNF- no idea, sorry
Villanova- not so much

it would really help to give us your ACT or SAT scores, because there are other factors to admissions research than just GPA and EC’s. the raw SAT/ACT scores + GPA are simply the easiest way to match up people. Also, none of us are admissions experts, just nervous students, I simply make sure to do my googling of admissions profiles before I chance people.
please chance back and good luck!

SAT is 1620/2400, Ill be taking my ACTs in the fall to hopefully do better

I can’t speak to a lot of these schools, but I think with your GPA and SAT Alabama will be a reach. Being admitted to UGA out-of-state is nearly impossible because of the Hope Scholarship, that school is a distant reach for you.
I noticed you’re heavily involved in lacrosse. Any chance for being recruited for that sport? Several of your reach schools, at least the ones that have women’s lacrosse, would easily become matches if you’re good enough to play at the college level.
Full Disclosure: I am actually a graduate student and worked in the admissions department at one of the schools on your list for four years after undergrad before beginning grad school.

I would have actually been recruited by now for lacrosse but I tore my ACL right before the recruitment camps this summer. Although, thats awesome that you worked in the admissions office! Any tips on applying to your school or one like it?

The school I worked at tended to be a safety school for kids in the Northeast that weren’t admitted to an Ivy or other elite LAC. Keeping that in mind, the GPAs test scores tended to be relatively high. Your best bet is to differentiate yourself, which you have through your ECs. Also, get letters of rec from people who actually know you. You have no idea how many kids get somebody their dad knows to write a recommendation for them because they think it will be impressive. AdComms can see right threw this. Make sure your recs can speak to your qualities as a person and what makes you special.
I know this is probably the same stuff you always hear, but it really is true. That’s what they look at.
I forgot that lacrosse recruiting occurs in spring of your junior year. Any chance you can send some tapes from fresh/soph year and any highlights from your travel team to coaches at some of these schools? You never know. Even if they can’t offer a scholarship, if they could use you on the team and invite you to walk on it can help with admissions.
