I'm a white junior going to a competitive school in Southern California (we might be top ten or something because of ESLR's...anyone heard of that?)

gpa:as of now 3.0 cummulative
hopefully 3.5 cummulative ( I may get a 4.25 this semester and retake some classes over summer)

class rank: 309/867
hopefully top ten percent

SAT: between 1850-2000

EC's: 2nd degree black belt in tae kwon do (9 years)
Varsity track (11th)
registered lifeguard (getting a job this summer)
40 hours of community service at church (how do you prove you did it?)
baseball, and basketball (9 years not at school but all-stars and whatnot)

AP's: 5-7 by end of senior yr., 1-2 Honors

applying:
Dartmouth
Duke
UPenn
UNC Chapel Hill
UVA
Vanderbilt
University of Florida, Georgia
Emory
Columbia
NYU
West Point
The Citadel

sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but i think you can forget about the ivies... 309/867 is nowhere near top ten percent, dear.. top ten percent would be 87/867 or above... and something like 85% of people who apply to ivies are in the top ten percent of their class.. and you can imagine what that looks like that only 10% of applicants are accepted...
Do you mean ESLR's as in "Expected Schoolwide Learning Results" ?
your SAT isnt so impressive either, Id start taking a look at other schools. The only ones i see there that you should continue to look at are UF and UGA, and possibly Vandy

I know my grades arent that good, but isnt it possible they want another athlete? I know a black belt is pretty rare and would add to the diversity of that school eh?

Black belt is not really that uncommon IMO, maybe its your area. I know several people who are black belts.

If you can get really good at track(place well at state) I'm sure your chances will be alot better, especially at Duke IMO.

The SAT is above average, but its not quite up to ivy caliber yet. Moving up 100+ spots in rank would be a pretty hard feat, but if you can do it, I think it'll up your chances alot.

can u give a breakdown of ur sat score by section (projected if they havent been taken)? its kind of hard for those of us used to the old SAT to visualize what that score is like (or at least it is for me ;)).

a black belt in tae kwon do is pretty common. Every Korean/asian guy has done it in like elementary school. I have black belts in tae kwon do and gundo(art of using swords). I'm sorry but your GPA and SAT are too low. Although you can apply look for some schools that you like have 90% chance of getting into.

basically, for nearly all the schools, you NEED to get that GPA to the 3.5 or u dont have a chance, and hopefully youll get on the top end of that projected range.

btw, el commando, you have a spyware program. some spyware insert inks in random words on websites that take you to different sites. run an anti-spyware program.

I have Norton anti virus so i guess i nd to run that again.

I am looking at all your schools and would name most of them as reaches. Sorry.

How much of a reach is Vanderbilt?
I'm alright with going there although i really like Duke at the moment.

thanks for the translation.

I should be saying thanks to you your the one helping me =)
