What are my chances posts. When is the tone too harsh?

In a lot of "what are my chances posts" I have seen sarcasm( Was part of sarcasm too-long story made a stupid mistake) .
And other things.
Example:
Hello, i have a 650 on Math
750 on CR
520 on wr
Can I get into NYU. Bu. BC ?

Responses:No.
Nope.
Hopeless.
Your scores are way too low.
Give up.

Do you think that when you ask someone to chance you, you are opening yourself up forn these comments ?
Or do you feel like one should critque others with more respect?

I think people should give each other more respect on these forums and alot of the sarcasm isn’t necessary. We all share common interests- going to college. There’s no point in discouraging people over these forums because they may actually take the advice and hype seriously and decide not to apply to the school they want to which could result in later on regrets.

I think people should take the approach of being honest, but bit more encouraging. For example instead of saying “no chance your scores suck” something like “your scores aren’t the greatest so you may want to retake the test, or try to make your other application areas stronger” would be more helpful.;)
