This may be a bit too early to tell but I just wanted to get an idea to see what I can work towards. I am rising junior at the moment and my career GPA is a 4.3. My sophomore PSAT score was a 1650 but I am hoping that it will go up after a prep course and more academic experience. By the time I graduate, I will have done at least 3 AP courses and at least 12 honors courses. I do a range of after school activities: french and german club, chamber choir at night, student run a cappella group, and I am joining model UN and mock trial team as well as hopefully SADD (students against drunk driving). I also will have danced for 8 years. I help out with a middle school a cappella group and also babysit. I have done an internship at my state house (hopefully I will have another internship at a lawyer's office next summer). I am planning on majoring in political science and/or history. Thank you!

Your ECs are great. Just make sure that you take a course load that you can handle… otherwise that will mess up your GPA. The internship seems really impressive. Keep up the good work!

Thank you so much!

I didn’t even have to finish reading your creds and that’s more than what I had. You’ll be fine. Push through your junior and senior year. Don’t let anyone tell you that “senior year is supposed to be fun!”. Colleges look most at your junior and senior year, simply because they demand the most work out of you. You keep up the great work and you’ll be a shoe in for UMass.

Another great habit to get into is studying. I got through high school with a 3.87, but could have been much better if I had the study habits I was forced to learn in college. Either way, senior year of high school had me up late writing English papers and finishing math homework.

To end, I don’t mean to say that you need to work your butt off to get to UMass. You certainly don’t need to work TOO hard. If UMass is honestly your dream school, then yes, you should have plenty of time for high school parties, hang outs, etc. If you were applying for MIT or Harvard, that would be another story…

Don’t stress on it. Have fun, learn something, and be yourself.

Thanks guys! You’ve all been super helpful
