What are my chances? - Rising Senior interested in political science

Hi I’m totally new at this but I’m super interested in political science with potentially a minor in some form of communications. I’m seriously looking at American University, George Washington University, and the University of Maryland as probably my top picks.

  • And I’m taking pass or fail online financial literacy this summer!

GPA Unweighted: 3.45
GPA Weighted: 3.6

SATs: I’ve only taken them once thus far, but I’m taking them again in August and September along with the essay portion so hopefully my scores will improve
1st time: 1320
580 Math (told you all…awful at math)
740 Reading/writing

Ethnicity: White
Gender: F

Extracurriculars:
Acted in one act plays through my school (probably acting and stage managing one next year), school’s spring play, hope for the homeless club (basically just volunteering at a homeless shelter…I’m running it next year), student council, tutor for AP seminar students, Unified Theater (leader for this as well next year), Nordsrom BP Board (terribly run but kind of a business learning experience)

I know my grades are pretty trash and it’s quite upsetting… finals really killed me this year. Prior to them I had an A- in Spanish, a B- in pre-calc, and a B+ in chem…ugh STILL SALTY. But whatever! Hopefully senior year I can get myself back on track and have a chance of getting into my top schools.

Bump

ED – if you and your family can deal with a less than optimal financial aid package and have a preference as to which college you attend – could boost your chances at any of these three schools. I would encourage you to explore that option.

Unfortunately this is not possible for my family-- I really need a decent financial aid package so as much as I want to aply ED to American in particular, it just isn’t feasible :frowning:

@chloeb56 No need to worry about that. If I were you, I wouldn’t be scared of AU’s low RD rate. This is likely due to the rejection of people who will most likely not attend AU. I also want to caution you that GWU’s campus is very, very different from AU’s. If you don’t get into/attend AU or UMD CP, you should be aware of that.

Yes, I definitely know that! I’ve toured all three schools and I like them all for very different reasons. Thank you so much for the help and advice!! I really appreciate it
