What Are My Chances @ RPI?

Can anyone let me know if they think I can get into Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute?
I am a senior in a California charter high school
Top 10% of my class
4.38 GPA
6 AP Classes - That’s a lot for my school since only about 10 are offered
31 ACT score
3 years Varsity Tennis
1 year Varsity Golf
Founder and President of Mu Alpha Theta
NSHSS Ambassador
Fashion Club Secretary
Key Club
Interact Club
Hospital Laboratory Volunteer 150+ hours
Teachers Aide - Physics and Algebra 2

Pretty high I would say. What major are you applying for and how does your ACT score break out?

Intended major?
On average, I think you have a good chance.

materials engineering

ACT Breakdown: 31E/ 28M/ 33R/ 30S

Math part of the ACT is your biggest weakness, that is the important part for engineering and avg is likely much higher at rpi.

@blevine I don’t think his math is too bad for MatEng. According to the curriculum he only needs Calc2 and DiffEqu and two physics, that’s pretty much the extent of the heavy math. After that his core courses are really up to whether he has the drive to learn it.

I think you should be ok @sns3242

I think the issue is admission here, not the difficulty of the major.
I would think math SAT/ACT scores are usually higher than above,
but then again, ENGLISH and READING may be above avg for this person.
GPA and lots of activities, and Math in but at bottom end of range, should have a good chance.
Target or stretch, not a safety school.

My only point was, for someone applying to engineering schools, retaking the ACT or SAT with that math score could not hurt. I often tell people DO NOT RETAKE for those ask “should I retake” when they have much higher scores.
Above a certain point, a slightly higher score wont matter, not sure this math score is at that point to help with admissions.

Your number of APs and ACT are around the average for accepted students. I think a 30/31 is the average ACT and the average number of APs for RPI students is 5. You have a pretty decent change of getting in.

Update for those who are have similar stats as me: I got in early decision w/ big scholarship

@sns3242 Congratulations!
